It's only a matter of time until the war fully resumes. This is the conflict that was in the pipeline for more than two decades. No way US will back out without a major victory (balkanization and vassalization of Iran).
It's to Iran's luck/benefit that the initial plans of US failed, namely a popular uprising led by the Monarchists, Arabs waging war on Iran and a Kurdish insurrection. US is surely organizing a Plan B (which doesn't revolve around ending hostilities and probably not a full ground invasion). My guess is: US is trying to recruit a regional player to commit to long-term hostilities against Iran. UAE looks likely but they don't got much of a punch. Perhaps, anti-Shia outfits in Iraq to destabilize the region more?
A major victory for the US is survival.
It's not about what America wants, its about the hard cold reality of American power, or lack thereof.
US weapons are old, their technology are from the 1980s and their industrial base is not even at Iran's level, they're simply not the global power they think they are, their vassals know it, the useful idiots like the Kurds know it, their own people know it.
The nature of war is defeat does not require your consent or satasification, defeat is imposed on you, whether you like it or not, and even the option to surrender isn't guaranteed, it's a luxury that you must work to secure.
If America can secure the option to surrender to Iran, be it paying $300B reparations or leave the region, it would have won, because the alternative is collapse.
