Russia does have poor leadership as well, but I wouldn’t necessarily say Iran has a bad military. Perhaps not good, but not really bad.

They seem to be pretty good at focusing on their strongpoints, which is building cheap plentiful weapons as well as building deep reinforced underground shelters, but that is mostly useful in a purely defensive role, and right now they need to be on the offensive, what with Israel being very predator like and preying on any sort of hesitance or visible weakness.

They need to be able to not only fight Israel, but also deter it, which is where the bad leadership part comes in. They’re clumsy and inept, don’t like to play dirty, and don’t use any of their strongpoints to their advantage. It makes Iran look weak and pathetic.

It's just for show. There must be a power play within the Iranian leadership itself especially amongst the people that are just simply sick and tired of living under the hypocrisy and theocratic rule of the mullahs - who love doing all the things they preach and warned against its own people. When was the last time the Iranian military made any purges based on incompetence, corruption, and sabotage?

Reportedly, Iran hasn’t done anything yet.

This is the biggest test Iran has faced in maybe last 800 years (Mongols were worst)

They either rally around their nation and civilization, Fight for it, or Israel and US will slowly degrade and destroy Iran. Most likely Iran will break up into pieces.

If they truly can fight back. They have the resources. They have the oil money, they have resources they can import from Russia. They can build up their missile and drone forces and Bomb Israel repeatedly until Israel itself is trouble. But they need to grind this one out and not give up. They need to be like the Houthis. Let's see if they have the mettle to struggle like that.

That is horrible. As a comparison, look at Russian air defense in Ukraine.

Most Ukrainian cruise missiles gets shot down. They've hit like what, 3-4 targets with conventional cruise missiles? Tactical rockets like HIMARS are also becoming ineffective. They've been able to do more strategic damage with guerilla strikes like the attack on Irkutsk.

Cruise missile interception is a basic role of air defense and either being unable to do it or unable to recognize its importance is a huge failure.

Trump is not going to like Netanyahu taking the limelight away from his upcoming birthday military parade. Still US would most likely defend Israel from Iran's retaliating attack by intercepting missiles and drones just like last time.

People here seem too harsh when talking about the Iranian military. They've had to build their military industrial complex from scratch without the same opportunities Russia had from the Soviet union and China with their manufacturing advantage. Ontop of them being sanctioned to hell for the past decade.

No doubt. Unfortunately like other posters have said, they really don’t seem to have the necessary cohesion to fight a major war. They’re too divided. This might just be like another Syria. Plenty of weapons and resources, but none of the will.

It ain't happening: Iranian leadership or whatever they're supposed to be are all feckless cowards hiding behind their oppressive regime's heavy handed approach against its own people. They sucked at governing, they sucked and are beyond incompetent. Their last refuge of regaining their past Persian glory was to turn towards religious fundamentalism when it all it did was borrow time and further cementing the rot of their society that was never fully understood, addressed in order to make something out of themselves beyond the allure of a fake Monarchy (Shah), and the geriatric pedos a.k.a. Mullahs.
