Great thanks for that.

@manqiangrexue

I see what you mean now regarding the Korean got a face like a smack arse. Lol
But one question. I always thought weightlifters are fit strong people. The Chinese and Korean look strong and fit. But the Americans just look fat to me. Am I missing something?
How come there are 2 athletes from South Korea in this event?

Ummm... well it's not super rare to have a fat dumpy-looking person in the super heavy division.

It used to be allowed to send 2 lifters to the same category as long as you don't exceed your national quota. That is no longer the case; now it's 1 lifter per weight class.

Guys.

Why are we even talking about bringing in outsiders to represent us in the Olympics? Very few country does this, cheque book representation. And usually doesn't end well.

Most of the "foreigners" that have represented another country is due to:

Birth, parentage, or naturalization through having been working in that particular country for a certain period of time.

If that's the case, I've personally have no issue with these "foreigners" representing China. I'm however, think it's a mistake that we should actually pursue a programme of selective immigration for the sake of achieving some medals.

@AssassinsMace

I'm sorry I've to disagree with you about the importance of these games to our national well being and psychology. The reasons why US and U.K. and all other countries that loud their winners are obvious. It's been calculated that national productions increase when a nation does well in sport. It also boost moral and helps with cohesion.

But to me most of all, was the story told to me and others when we visted the embassy of China in London at around just before the Beijing Olympics. (I dont know how true the story is. But we take it on face value).

It goes something like this (And this from memory). Back in the early 1900s. A few years after the first game was held in 1896. A delegation from China was asking the western Olympics officals how long do they think China can host an Olympic game. Apparently, the laughter from the official can still be heard to this date (2008).

Least we forget of the humility suffered by our forefathers to fight for this game. And we are now here and fighting for our times in the sun. So let's get behind our athletes that represent us, China whether or not they are Chinese born or "foreigners". If they put their hearts in to represent us. That's good enough for me!

Two things.

First, this is exactly what I'm saying about the quotas being unfair. Only allowing one is unfair to the country that might have two or three outstanding athletes within a chance of obtaining medals not being given that chance, Yet in track and swimming countries mainly western ones are allowed more than one competitor.

Second.

It may not be super rare to have a fat dumpy person lifting heavy objects. But usually in my experience, mostvof these fat dumpy person can't even lift a big Mac to shove it in their mouth. So how is it possible that these fat dumpy weightlifters can lift so much weight?

If China didn't value it in the first place, they wouldn't have been humiliated. One hundred and twenty years later and they haven't learned the lesson.

Interesting point of view Mace. So from now on, perhaps if we go through life not caring and valuing things, then maybe we all be better off. Can't really argue with that.

But I do think life is a liile bit more complx than that. Each to it's own.

@ansy1968

Whatever you're doing to jinx our vollyball team. Please stop it now!
