Guys be prepared for today (August 4) to be a pretty bad day in the medal race (gold or total). China will likely only medal once today, in artistic swimming. Let's hope it's a gold but only expecting silver.
Unless US suffers horrible bad luck (which is possible of course), it will rack up a few medals today. It's already won 2 medals placing 1st and 2nd in women's 400m and will probably medal a few times in the remaining 4 athletics events today (though I don't think they'll medal in any other events).
Hopefully in the future US can at least be stopped somewhat in the team sports, boxing, and wrestling, because they are now threatening to pull away with the athletics onslaught AND medal a bunch in the former 3. Of course like I said, it's possible that even in athletics they get really unlucky, so China ends up leading in gold medal count. I think we will know a lot more by end of tomorrow (August 5) as to whether the US will get close to China's gold medal tally or not.

Its gonna end up like the 2nd or 3rd best gold medal haul yet anyway!
The overall haul so far, as well as the great performances in the pool / gymnastics / Sun Bingtian pretty much already did lifted the nation's spirits in these covid times and made our neighbors and competitors salty hehehe.
Should just stick to the Chinese strategy, we mind our own business and do our best, the rest will sort itself out

I can see the US media is playing up Mykayla Skinner individually winning silver on vault as more valuable than Sunisa Lee individually winning gold on gymnastics most important all-around contest. The hatred for Simone Biles on the internet in the US seems to have affected her performance. It harkens back to Nancy Kerrigan who won silver getting more endorsement deals than Kristi Yamaguchi who won gold. Now they'll probably attack Sunisa Lee for not abandoning TikTok and call her a communist.
I read that the Washington Post is accusing an Italian swimmer with cheating who won his event because of inconsistent performance yet Jamaicans consistently win their track events but still accusations they're cheating. A couple Olympics back Western swimmers were bragging about these scientifically engineered swimsuits made for them that had the same texture of a dolphin's skin. I believe they were "eventually" banned because it gave Western countries an advantage but this time they immediately banned a swim cap made for black swimmers. Then on a sports side note, the US congress is pushing a law that will make it illegal for US athletes from making endorsements deals with Chinese companies meaning they want to stop African-American NBA players from making money from China since those athletes are the primary benefactors of Chinese endorsement deals.

No Italian swimmer (man or woman) won a single gold in swimming.
I would find it interesting that they are accusing the Jamaicans of cheating since that is supposed to be a big no-no in the Western world nowadays. Got any links?

how many in semi and how many will get gold you reckon?
Yea I've been saying the US needs to lose a lot of boxing and wrestling matches for China to have a chance at placing first in the gold medal count. So far US has only won 1 gold there and keeps getting knocked out right before the finals so we will see if this continues.
Recently China won a bronze and knocked out a US competitor.
USA has:
R. Torrez Jr in Men's super heavyweight finals
D. Ragan in Men's featherweight Final
K. Davis in Men's lightweight Semi-finals
O. Jones in Women's welterweight semi-finals lost to China
China has:
Gu Hong in Women's welterweight Finals
Li Qian in Women's middleweight Semi-finals
So 3 more gold chances for US and 2 more for China. Now that I list it it doesn't seem so bad for China
