2014 Ukrainian Maidan Revolt: News, Views, Photos & Videos

I used google and -- without trying to defend anybody or anything -- I realized it was "a never-ending story" of unrests on May 9 in (some parts of) Ukraine, as, and I'm not expressing my own opinion now: some people there considered May 9 not the Victory Day, but "a beginning of the occupation". I think the problem is that using google I didn't find any single report of what SampanViking just posted (I mean http://www.sinodefenceforum.com/mem...s-views-photos-videos-90-6796.html#post281236) in mainstream Czech, Polish media (and I don't think I'm so sloppy when using google, as the same search brought, for example, videos, articles about clashes in 2011)!

Interesting narrative. What I find odd is that part about regretting not bringing a camera. Who doesn't have a camera on their phone these days?

I find it a little too continent when the person who makes a claim markedly at odds with what has been shown in pictures and videos is seemingly the only blogger in Europe who doesn't have a camera on his phone.

I hope this is authentic:

I translate the question (to be answered by ticking YES or NO at the bottom of the voting ballot) as:
Do You Support the Independence Act of the Donetsk People's Republic?
and I was able to locate the text of the independence proclamation:

But hey I post this without trying to defend anybody or anything, not alleged Lviv-Fascists in my #1351 yesterday, not alleged Donetsk-Antifascist now :)

Do You Support the Independence Act of the Donetsk People's Republic?

What a meaningless question (I'm not criticising your translation). Where is "the independence act" or the consequences of it defined? It could be easily interpreted as saying "are you unhappy with the Kiev government". Yet there are now reports the rebel leaders want a second referendum about joining Russia. Not sure how that follows on.

Presumably we will see another joke result saying there's 90% turnout with 99% in favour, only for the Russians to admit much later that there was low turnout and a bare majority in favour. And given it's impossible to know how many people can actually take part in this, it makes the "referendum" even more pointless.

I think the question you asked (and I underlined) is answered in my post you refer to

I meant on the ballot paper, or at the polling station in the voting booths. Does that information appear in either place? Because it seems to me the question is deliberately vague so the rebels can claim they have a mandate to do whatever they like.

What a meaningless question (I'm not criticising your translation). ...

I realized only now the question
(I translated it as Do You Support the Independence Act of the Donetsk People's Republic?)
could be tricky, as the independence of the Donetsk People's Republic was declared on April 7 (I tried to look into the details here:

), so to me it seems the question only seeks to confirm what's already happened (but it could've asked people if, for example, they want to live in an independent country) ... but I sure don't have the proper knowledge of either Russian/English/Law to make a valid point :)

EDIT
I better add this: I don't think people are confused by the wording of that question. What I meant was the question could've been similar to that of the Scottish referendum, which is: "Should Scotland be an independent country?" according to

EDIT AGAIN
oops, I just found out how the BBC translated that question: "Do you support the act of state self-rule of the Donetsk People's Republic/Luhansk People's Republic?" Either the voting ballot I posted

is incorrect, or ...

Just twiddling thumbs today.

I think the declaration of Independence by both Regions is a foregone conclusion. The only question is whether Russia will recognise the Republic of Donetsk and extend its protection against "occupational forces".

Anybody read when the declaration is likely to be made?
