I think it's worth posting these pics here as in the future we can expect Type 071 LPD to embark such helos

Now that is a very interesting pic. I'd like to see it actually landed and taking off.

If they are doing trials for it on those older LST type vessels, then I too would bet that they will ultimately be embarked onboard the LPDs, just like the US embarks Super Cobras on the San Antonio class...and we have even seen Apaches on occasion.

Very good find, asif!

Personally I believe the Type 071 LPD has a great potential

It has two larger compartments inside with a well deck that can accommodate 4 x Type 726 LCAC and a double hanger which can take 4 x Z8 helicopters

A large deck which China will find very useful and they are collecting parts of the MH370 aircraft they will realise the advantages the flat deck gives at sea

Really by now they should have a large LHD programme in full swing along with a carrier programme plenty of escorts are in place

I would also. I doubt if the helo landed in this photo where as the safety nets are up. I'm sure the the PLAN could deploy attack helos aboard their LPDs. Do the rotors blades fold?

If they really wanted they could I guess but the rotor blades on this helo currently do not fold or should we say we have not seen folding rotor blades for WZ-10 I am sure it's not a big deal to do it though as its the naval paint job and flotation devices

Although personally I believe it did not do a landing otherwise we should have seen the pics China as always show us one step behind maybe they have even landed on a Type 071 LPD simply we do not know or maybe it did land on this LST but we can only go by what they show us and by the looks of this they just tried to prove the concept and did not actually do a deck landing with this attack helicopter

But it's progress first came the pics last year of these helos over the sea for the first time now we have seem helos over the LST and next I expect to see them do a landing

So it's a step in the right direction and certainly is a start

Anyone notice the drop tanks that Z10 was carrying? They are the same colour as the Z10, which is why they are really hard to notice at first glance. But if you look at the shadow that Z10 cast on the helipad, you can see that it was carrying two stores on each wing, and if you look carefully, you can just about make out the outlines of the tanks on some of the photos.

Based on the presence of the tanks, I think that this was mostly a navigational and communications exercise to test if an army aviation Z10 could communicate with, and meet up with a navy ship a a fair distance out at sea.
