@by78, the main military threads are for upto date/new photos and discussion of of the subjects, not post after post of photos that we've seen before, regardless of how nice they may be.

My bad. I had no idea older photos should go to a dedicated thread elsewhere. I will keep that in mind in the future. Apologies.

by78's first pic of 999 shows two extra what looks like SATCOM domes. haven't seen those on other 071 pics.
seems 999 was fitted with the extra SATCOMs shortly before joining the 15th anti-piracy flotilla.

Type 071 LPD is a really good amphibious assault ship and gives PLAN the platform of a much needed flat top deck

A flat top deck in the sea is invaluable and can be used for many things

Type 071 LPD can store four medium sized helos in the hanger even more on the deck, can have simultaneous operations of 2-3 helos and the well deck can store 4 x LCAC

That's a great lift capacity I am really not sure what a upgrade so called "Type 071B" can offer

They should have kept building these, they launched one in 2010 and another 2011 and by this year they could have launched a further 3 units to have 6 x LPD launched and a further three would ensure 3 x Type 071 LPD for each fleet or a Flotilla of three amphibious assault ships for each fleet

Add to each fleet a LHD and you have a amphibious assault group in each fleet around 3 x LPD and 1 x LHD, 9 x LPD and 3 x LHD in total, in addition the Type 072 LST would provide the numbers in term of capacity 10 in each fleet lots of ships there plenty of critical mass

Add in a carrier to each fleet and that's 5 flat tops in each fleet a good force

If a country sees a Amphibous ready group of such a force backed by FFG and DDG that would be sending a pretty clear message

Nothing about beginning 001A this year?!

If i may ask a neophite question, 815A is an ELINT ship (improved Dongdiao?), while 903 will be a big oiler/replenishment ship right? Any info as to the type number for the LHD (i saw 075 mentioned), and displacement (again, rumours seems to point to over 30,000t) ? Thanks.
