The Type 071 flight deck is not wood. It's metal.

Were these photos taken by PLAN or USN?

Those are not US Navy pictures. Most likey they were taken by the PLAN and are official PLAN photos, but I am not positive of that, but they defintiely originated in China.

I really think the PLAN should use this platform as start into the carrier designs. This ship can easily be modified into ships similar to the wasps and what the japanese and koreans just build recently. The PLAN can practice and meet all the problems they will face before having a real large carrier.

It appears that the negotiations and discussions did not go through. As late as June of 2008 here on SinoDefence there was still talk of it, and a page dedicated to it. But apparently it was never finalized.

Thanks for pointing it out, I had overlooked it and have now corrected it.

Does the chines LPD use Gas turbines, or steam, diesel
Apparently they are diesels...CODAD, 2-shaft, 4 x SEMT Pielstick 16 PC2.6 V400 Diesel engines (35,200 kW), 47, 200hp

We've been hearing that one for years. At one point it was even reported a transfer had been made. I will believe it when I see it.

Obviously the rationale for having the Zubr is there (Taiwan scenario) but this has been discussed so often to no avail that I kind of ignore it.

this is kind of interesting, if you look at the middle part of this news. It has a model LCAC undergoing some kind of test and study.

Are there any indications of PLAN building new LSTs (eg 072+) or are all indications that there will be a full shift to "proper" LPDs like 071?
