4th type 071

For the last year or so, people have been saying are the PLAN building a 4th type 071.

But......now out of the blue.....there is a listing for a 4th in class of this ship type, details are as follows:-

Name of vessel:-

Taihang Shan

Launched:-

17th January 2012 at HD shipyard

Commissioning:-

expected late 2013.

Now if this is correct, what i want to know is.........why there are apparently no images of this ship?

How come no one noticed the launch of this vessel?

Its May 2013 now..........whats going on here?????????????

We saw the pics of what appeared to be a fourth 071 being built.

However, I do not believe it has been launched yet, or even progressed a lot to the point where it is obvious what it is.

If it had, we would surely have seen pictures of it at HD. If it were launched and sitting there outfitting there is no doubt in my mind that we would have seen pictures of it.

So, while I personally believe a 4th Type 071 is coming...the mystery remains. Where is it?

I agree.......a vessel of this size couldn't go unnoticed by observers.

Maybe, someone got hold of a name for a type 071 which is due to be constructed in the near future, or as a name for a new class of amphibious ship.........but this January 2012 launching of a 4th vessel appears to be a ruse!

Basically, i would assume that someone had 2 pieces of information and decided to merge those details together to form a 4th type 071!

Maybe it's taking so long because the fourth 071 will become the first 071A?

Well, back in February of this year (3 months ago) this is a construction module that was seen in HD and posted on the internet, and here on SD:

I focused on the twin screw arrangement in the foreground, not on the item circled. I then posted these photos for comaprison back then

1st - A close up of the screw/rudder arrangement on the Type 071 LPD

2nd - A view of the aft end of one of the earlier Type 071 LPD under construction

When you compare what was seen in February 2013 with that last pic, it looks like that module sitting there at HD is a perfect fit for the lower stern section, including the screws on the Type 071 as shown in the construction picture. That would mean to me that that is for either a new 071, or an updated one (071A?) that is about to be built.

At some point, as they put these parts together we will get a better idea...but that apparently has not happened yet.

Unfortunately, that was NOT a part of a new 071 (or 071A).
That was part of one (out of six) of the new (and first for China) LNG carriers that HD is building using french tecnology (under license).

Thanks. If that is the case, that certainly explains why no further photos of construction progress have been seen.

I believe that the twin screw arrangement is very similar to the Type 071 as shown...but that certainly does not mean it had to be that way. And apparently it wasn't.

according to june issue of kanwa,turkish navy is interesting purchased blue print for "flat top" LPD,first reveal at bangkok def. exh.
according to mag. Dalian ship yard told kanwa,while the design already finish,but there's no order from PLA .

Looks like 998 was loaded with equipment of the PLA
