055 Large Destroyer Thread II

Wait really, is there any news
Do notice his question is "Does China plan to have other type advances navy destroyers in the future".

There is no need for any news, really. It is expectation from modern navy building in general, disregard of which country. If a a major military power country like China is stopping to plan ahead for a new DDG after type 055, something must be very wrong with PLAN.

By the time we have news, the plan would already have been approved by CMC. It is just opsec.

Moreover, China's military building doctrine of building a current design, R&D on the next design, and evaluating concept for the next-next one is not restricted to just PLAAF or PLAGF.

There're two major suggestions about the next generation DDG on Chinese Internet.

One is sized between 052DL & 055. About 9,000 tonnes in displacement. Some suggest it's 052E, bcz current 052DL's vessel design is too old. The design was from a recent Chinese journal paper.

Another is much larger than 055. Over 20,000 tonnes in displacement. This idea was first proposed by General/Engineer Ma Weiming, who leads EMALS and naval rail gun development in China. He hopes rail guns can be installed in a super-large DDG, along with nuclear propulsion & sufficient electricity generation.

China is definitely testing something new. Just wait and see.

I won't talk about the others (namely the 052D/DG-successors), but that "all-purpose warship" (全能舰) idea proposed by Ma Weiming's paper should not be taken "as it is".

Yeah this new 20,000 ton extra large DDG seems pretty fanciful and something that's far off if it ever materializes. Also hasn't railguns basically been dead in the water for years? It seems like for whatever reason they just haven't been able to get off the drawing board and onto active service anywhere.
