Do we know for sure that it's a SATCOM antenna? If I recall correctly, only the first two ships of the class (101 & 102) were fitted with it, but both subsequently had it removed. I can only speculate, perhaps its function was either taken over by other means or deemed redundant or not critically important.

I remember Tam mentioning it somewhere and he posited that it was an added capability retrofitted onto 101 as it wasn't part of the class' original config.

I didn't know it had since been removed until looking at these pictures now.

It could have been removed as the same SATCOM (or very similar in size and shape to it) were retrofitted on 054As right behind the bigger SATCOM on top of the hanger. But seeing FFG 546 above there, the same SATCOM is now absent. I think this SATCOM has turned redundant, and its functionality taken over by the circular marshmallow SATCOMs near it.
