internal volume is likely to be more than sufficient on ship this big. better to keep things low if possible. also better for stealth that vls isnt flush with the deck and thus not covered by side walls. as for orientation of vls, is that purely an aesthetics comment? or is there some practical value in orientation, *if* space allowance makes both orientations equally attainable?

The renders so far have been very European looking from what I feel....

I think most recent PLAN ships have quite a European look to them.

What can I say, I'm a sucker for consistency and flush profiles :p

However I think having the rear VLS transverse would mean that they could more easily add more VLS in a future iteration. Then again, space might mean they have to stick it longitudinally, who knows.

Is VLS on deck really a big contributor to stealth? The only ship I can name off the top of my head with walls deliberately designed for that role is the type 45, edit: horizon too, I suppose although its walls are lower. Even zumwalt doesn't have that for its VLS. I imagine they would only add meaningfully significant RCS returns if it is a higher flying platform emitting, and I think in that sense having a "wall" might actually add RCS at some angles. (And the presence of a VLS wall probably won't reduce overall RCS returns much for most ships in the first place)
I think the VLS won't add too much radar return from a lower flying source like a sea skimming missile. Maybe literally their hinges.

Because to me, it's the least important, in fact it shouldn't a concern at all. CODOG is just fine, or COGAG.

What's most important, to me, is her sheer size.

PLAN urgently needs larger surface combatants that could make best use of the 346A radars by having a higher bridge, providing more power, and a larger hull to house more missiles.

The propulsion systems is basicaly the only field where China still needs to catch up to the western world. A modern IEP system would help to increase the range and the max economical cruise speed and would simplify maintenance. It's also an important factor for the Chinese commercial shipbuilding industry.

I wonder what's that faceted bubble mast. Probably just a new lower RCS enclosure for the Type 364 radar, which would be disappointing. What would be exciting would be a new Sampson-like rotating AESA, which would obviate the need for a Type 364 as well as the 4-panel main AESA.

Why do you want to put a Sampson on a >10k t ship? The selling point of the Sampson is to have a lightweight AESA radar which can be put on a higher position, compared to other radar solutions, to increase the max radar horizon. But you pay it with less TR modules and peak power compared to other AESA solutions.

A four-panel X-band + S/L band long search radar would be the better and international prefered solution.

if not for stealth then rear vls doesn't need any walls on the sides of the ship. in that case it'd be better to save weight and not even bother with side walls, aesthetics of "broken flush silhoutte of the ship" be damned.

we're yet to see what will mk-57 actually look like when integrated on zumwalt. is it going to look like on CG drawings or will the whole system have another lid on top of the deck of the ship.

One good example of this is the Enterprise VS Nimitz Class. The A2W reactors on board Enterprise is of much lower power output compared to the A4W reactors on the Nimitz. What did the US navy do then? They simply put 8 of those on the CVN65, whereas Nimitz class have only 2 A4W reactors. Of course this is an improvement(A4Ws), but the point is, for ships, you can add powerplants up to achieve the desired total power output, and the larger the ship, the easier this will be as there's more room for propulsion.

Furthermore, the QC280s are very powerful steam turbines themselves, although considerably larger than American GE LM2500, in terms of power output they're at least on par.

How much larger QC 280 compared to LM2500? I understand with 28 MW output, QC280 would be more powerful than any LM2500 produced before 3rd generation which has a slightly more power output. The current generation LM2500 (G4) has 35 MW output

中国海军自创建之始历经缴获、购买、仿制、自研几个阶段,从无到有,从弱小到逐渐强大。而作为中国海军的主力战舰的驱逐舰,也同样走了这样一条路,中国海军驱逐舰的发展历程,曲折而漫长,见证了海军的成长历程。

  在建国之初,1953年中国从苏联订购4艘07型驱逐舰,即有着“四大金刚”之称的101舰“鞍山”号、102舰“抚顺”号、103舰“长春”号、104舰“太原”号,这四艘驱逐舰在我海军五十、六十年代一直是主战水面舰艇。

  50年代末期,中国开始了导弹驱逐舰的总体方案和预研工作,总体设计任务由七院701所承担,采用了正常排水量为3000多吨、大功率蒸汽发动机的方案,型号为051型。首舰于1968年在大连造船厂开工建造,后续有上海中华造船厂、广州造船厂参与建造,共建造了近20艘。051型导弹驱逐舰在70、80年代成为我国海军最大的水面主战舰艇,至今尚在服役。

上世纪九十年代,为配合国家经济建设,我国军事工业的发展基本处于半停滞阶段,主战舰艇的建造也相当缓慢,一共才建造了052型“哈尔滨”号和“青岛”号驱逐舰舰,以及051B型“深圳”号这三艘导弹驱逐舰。

052型导弹驱逐舰由于当时国内技术水平限制,采用了多达八个国家的装备,被戏称为“八国联军”,而设计建造的周期也相当长,号称“十年磨一舰”。

051B型导弹驱逐舰原为驻港部队建造,拟担任驻港部队旗舰,但因技术能力和建造能力所限,进度严重拖后,在建造完成后交付之前,竟存在数千个大大小小的问题,由此也可见当年技术水平和建造能力的薄弱。

本世纪初期,海军迎来了一个造舰高峰,随着052B型、052C型和051C型这三型6艘导弹驱逐舰的开工建造和交付,说明中国在驱逐舰的设计建造的技术水平和能力上有所突破。随着后续052C和052D型驱逐舰的曝光,又一波造舰浪潮开始了,证明我国驱逐舰研制能力又上了一个台阶。

052D型导弹驱逐舰是在052C型的基础上发展而来的,沿用052C的成熟平台,主要升级了作战系统,采用了一些新型号的装备,如通用垂直发射装置、346A型相控阵雷达、PJ38型单管130毫米舰炮武器系统、红旗-10导弹武器系统等等;052D型在作战指挥系统、综合通信系统以及其他电子设备及武器系统上也有较大提升。

052D型导弹驱逐舰的面世,说明我国现在对大中型驱逐舰的研制已经趋于自信,具备研制大型驱逐舰的能力和条件。按照我国海军装备“建造一代、研制一代、预研一代”的习惯做法。后续我国新一代驱逐舰应该已经在研制中。

网上一直有传言,我国新型驱逐舰为055型驱逐舰。055这个型号并非首次出现,早在1968年2月,七院根据海军党委给聂荣臻并中央军委《关于建造远洋护航舰船的建议》的报告,向有关所下达了开展大型火炮导弹舰战术技术和方案论证的任务,确定设计代号就定为055。

1970年8月,国务院、中央军委决定将055舰交给上海市为主研制。9月,成立由沪东造船厂、北海舰队和701研究所参加的055舰三结合研制组,全国数百个配套研究所和设备生产厂参与了该项目,终于正式开始了该舰的研制工作。


1976年3月,国务院和中央军委以国发【1976】19号文件正式向国防工办、第六机械工业部等有关单位下达了055大型导弹驱逐舰的研制任务并拨出项目专款。但是055型导弹驱逐舰这一型号因故未能延续下去,1981年,国防科委和国家机械委联合决定,将055型导弹驱逐舰从正式型号研制改列为预先研究。

当年055型导弹驱逐舰项目的夭折,有很多方面的原因,其主要的因素还是研制任务书的要求超出了当时我国国内科研水平和建造能力。任务书要求该型导弹驱逐舰采用柴、燃交替使用的联合动力装置;具有远程预警能力和远中近三个层次的空中、水面和水下立体攻防作战能力。

当时国内研制能力根本无法研制或无法达到任务书规定的性能指标要求的设备,如无法研制出满足055型舰的战术技术性能要求的联合动力装置舰用燃气轮机和柴油机;作战系统的一些子系统和设备如舰载反潜直升机系统、电子对抗系统、舰空导弹系统、水声对抗系统、综合通信系统、对空预警雷达、三座标雷达、火箭助飞鱼雷等也没有能力研制。这些都成为055项目的瓶颈和死穴,导致055型舰未能延续。退一步说,即使任务书所要求的设备能研制出来,按当时的技术水平,在055这个平台上,也无法解决电磁兼容和火力兼容等一系列的问题。这一状况基本延续到后来的052型导弹驱逐舰设计建造中,052型导弹驱逐舰,购买了七个国家的设备,研制周期前后历经近10年,由此也可见当时我国驱逐舰研制之路的艰难。

如果055型驱逐舰能够涅槃重生,这不仅可告慰当年为这个型号奉献心血的前辈们,也是我国综合国力上升的体现,更是中国海军从近海防御的黄水海军转变为远海蓝水海军的标志之一。

当年的055驱逐舰的研制由于技术水平建造能力欠缺所限制而夭折,但并未废止这个型号,而是转为预研型号,而预研型号在条件具备时,是可以随时转为正式型号的,故此沿用055这个型号是完全可能的。再说,型号的号段也是很宝贵的,051、052、053、054、056都已经占用,余下的号段不多,而中国海军还要继续发展,启用以前的预研型号也是符合科学发展观的。

那么这个神秘的新一代驱逐舰究竟会是什么样子呢?它定位的使命任务和作战效能究竟如何呢?在这里笔者进行一个大胆的估计和猜测。

055型驱逐舰的作战使命,与以往中国海军驱逐舰在岛链内或有限突破岛链执行作战任务不同,应定位于为第二岛链以外的远海乃至全球战略服务,是捍卫我国海洋利益的利器。同时,也是为我国航母战斗群配套的主战驱逐舰。

排水量的大小与舰船的使命任务有很大的关联,055型驱逐舰具有较大的排水量、较高的续航力、较长的自持力和全球适航性。预计该型号驱逐舰的正常排水量在12000吨左右,舰型为高平甲板、全燃动力、双轴、双调距桨的大型导弹驱逐舰,可搭载两架直升机。动力系统预计会采用国产QC280型燃气轮机的改进型,最大航速不低于30节。舰型会充分考虑隐身性设计和降低噪声特征、红外特征及电磁特征的设计,并具有良好的居住性和舰员生活保障条件。

该舰具有强悍的单舰综合作战能力,具有远、中、近三层软硬武器先期预警防御网和攻击火力网。具有防空、反潜和反舰能力,也可执行对陆攻击和遂行火力支援的任务。

在立体化海上综合作战群中,承担指挥舰任务,能指挥数个海面战术作战编队和多艘潜艇以及多批次空中作战飞机。具有接收和反馈天基、空基和陆基目指信息能力,可与陆基和空基指挥所同步作战综合态势,实时决策。指挥本作战群空中、水面和水下作战单元的作战行动,可调用被辖舰艇和飞机的作战信息,并可对所辖任意舰船上的武器进行统一的直接火力控制。

在航母战斗群中,055型驱逐舰承担编队防空、反舰、反潜和遂行对陆攻击作战任务。

055型驱逐舰作战系统配置上具有较为先进的电子武器装备,根据055型驱逐舰的作战使命的定位,采用顶层设计,层层分解的方式,优化架构的合理性和集成度,指挥与控制一体化。实现标准信息、通用基准完全共享,设备小型化、通用化、集成化、标准化。在雷达、电子对抗及通信天线的高度集成化的条件下,舱面电子设备布局将会非常简练,而开放式通用接口显控机柜给后续升级工作带来便捷。在作战流程上,简化指挥层级,减少战位,减轻操作人员的工作强度。

052D型驱逐舰上配置的PJ38型单管130毫米舰炮毫无疑问会成为055型驱逐舰的主炮,该型舰炮射程较远,具有较高的射速,可使用不同种类的弹种,同时还具有发射炮射导弹的能力,在舰炮控制的自动化程度上也较以往的大口径舰炮有很大的提高,适合安装于5000吨级别以上的舰船。

在对空近程防御武器方面,红旗-10舰空导弹武器系统和近程反导舰炮武器系统会成为制式装备。在052D型上配置的PJ12型7管30毫米近程反导舰炮武器系统将不再被安装,而会采用首装于“辽宁”号航母上的11管超高速万发反导舰炮武器系统取代。

在052D型驱逐舰上首次露面的346A型相控阵雷达将会在055驱逐舰上被沿用,而有着巨大“八木”天线的517B型对空警戒雷达则会被性能更高的新型警戒雷达所取代。

在反舰导弹武器系统上,预计会装备性能全面超越YJ-83型和YJ-62型反舰导弹的新型反舰巡航导弹武器系统,该型号具有超音速突防能力和极强的抗干扰能力,在制导方式和发动机技术上均有所突破,作战使用上更加易攻难守,可与通用垂直发射系统共架发射。

在电子装备上,通用集成天线将会被采纳,将装备类似美军“Link-16”系统的联合作战数据信息分发传输系统,能提供抗干扰、高速率、大容量、保密的数字、语音、数据通信和定位功能,而综合型数据链和卫星通信、水中通信系统使得该舰具备了强大的通信信息能力。

055型驱逐舰的电子战手段更加先进,能够侦查监视舰船周边的电磁、光学和声波信号,对各种信号进行威胁等级判断,对出现的威胁信号进行分析测量和预先告警。并以多种手段如有源干扰和无源干扰等方式,对敌方舰载、机载雷达和导弹末制导设备实施压制干扰,从而削弱敌方作战能力,保护本舰及编队的安全。
