Yeah 055 isn't the perfect ship to compare with Burke, especially that picture of Burke taken at an angle, because of 055s hull form/free board. It doesn't help that the Burke class tapers off at the aft as well.

If you look at pics of Tico class with 052D, and look at the rear VLS Bank of 052D, that should give a clearer perspective of the size difference.

Oh no, I was agreeing that the forward cells certainly look larger proportionally than those on the Burke. (IIRC both ships are roughly the same beam but you can see how much more width of the ship the forward bank of cells takes up for the same number of cells wide on the Burke. As for the "small cells aft" comment, I was merely eye-balling the aft cells to the forward on the Type 055. Upon further investigation it appears that's more an optical illusion and that they're all the same size on the Type 055. )

Ah ok I see, fair enough.

And welcome to being active at SDF, I'm sure there will be some interesting discussions with you here.

4 x Type 055 backed by a fast Type 901 Tanker would make a awesome surface action group

Send one out on patrol to the Pacific deep and close to USA

Then watch the action, 448 VLS between them 4

Will need a SSN for escort too though a Type 093

A few more high-resolution images...

This one is from the night before the launch:

And finally a nice panoramic view. Note the 055 and 052D in tandem (background, left side), 055's beam looks substantially wider. For the full resolution version (4097 x 2731),

A shot of the bow.

Notice the square yellow patch (lower-left-hand corner, next to the cat hole). I wonder what it is for. Any ideas? Several of these can be found on either side of the hull, at precisely the same corresponding positions.

10t clump weight I guess, balancing act for newly launched and unloaded ship.
