Discussion in other Chinese military forum indicates that this vessle could finally be #38 in sequence since the launching of the Hudong vessel which was known as #38 before may be postponed for weeks due to the recent COVID19 endemic in Shanghai.

In July 13 there was a photo of the Guangzhou Huangpu Shipyard leaked below with two Type 054A vessels at a stage just before launching.

The one on the right may be the one I mentioned above, perhaps the #38 of the class.

And the one on the left could be #39 (or #40 if Shanghai Hudong Shipyard would launch one before her ceremony).

In a photo leaked recently, there were again two vessels in the same shipyard.

But this time the one in the right was in an much earlier stage of construction.

So I guess they were #39 on the left and a new #40 on the right, while #38 was already launched.

May there be something new to be discovered.

Wait, they're launching the 10th vessel of the new batch already? That's incredible fast

Yes. Although it's a bit confusing to distinguish, there had been at least seven vessels launched by May 13 and one of them commissioned.

With the vessles in Huangpu and Hudong shipyards by now, there would be at least 10 or 11 vessles for PLAN in this batch witnessed, and maybe more.

It's rumored to be twenty vessles in this batch for PLAN and four for Pakistan Navy, while the latter ones were all lauched and two of them already delivered to PN.
