Ukraine, but also yesterday's actions of the Pakistani Air Force show that the Air Force will have a very, very hard time against good anti-aircraft defense. But it will still be very useful for the battles in Bambustan.
Well, I'm exaggerating..
If we go back to WW2 the only way to achieve air dominance is to put airplanes in the air because that was the only technology available at the time. If two opposing forces go to war and one side has 2x the number of aircraft then it will most likely achieve "Air superiority".
However with advancements in computer, sensor, and missile technology I think the equation is a little more complex now. If two opposing forces go to war and one side is superior in anti-air defense while the other side is superior in the number of aircraft then which side achieves "Air superiority"? If I had to bet my money I'd put it on anti-air defense.

It seems that two Type 052Ds (pennant number 125 and 158) commissioned recently this month according to the Chinese version of Wikipedia, which brings the number of commissioned Type 052D to 29.
So that makes now 4 Type 052Ds commissioned since Dec 2024?
