New Philippine Navy frigates to field Kelvin Hughes navigation radars
Please, Log in or Register to view URLs content!

UK-based navigation systems supplier Kelvin Hughes announced it has been awarded a contract to deliver its navigation radars for the Philippine Navy’s two new frigates currently being constructed by Hyundai Heavy Industries.

The contract for the construction of the 2,600 ton frigates was awarded to HHI in October 2016 with the first ship expected to be handed over in 2020.

In addition to its SharpEye navigation radars, Kelvin Hughes said it would be also supplying two multifunction bridge radar displays for the Philippine Navy frigate acquisition program.

The frigates are designed as a smaller version of the Incheon-class frigate which is already in service with the Republic of Korea Navy.

According to HHI, the 107 meter frigates will be propelled with a CODAD (Combined Diesel and Diesel) propulsion system reaching maximum speeds of 25 knots.

The vessels (hull numbers P159 and P160) will have stealth characteristics, further complemented by the low radar cross section design of the upmast SharpEye™ radar sensor carbon fibre housing and antenna turning unit.

With a projected range of 4,500 nautical miles range at a cruising speed of 15 knots, the ships will be operable up to Sea State 5.
I wonder what armament they'll actually get (from what I figured, they might get just an eight-cells VLS and two quad AShM launchers)

Dengan demikian, Indonesia mendapatkan nilai ekspor sebesar 570 juta dolar AS dari 1,14 miliar dolar AS total nilai pengadaan.

"Russia gives discount weaponry for Sukhoi Su-35

Defense Minister Ryamizard Ryacudu confirmed 11 units of Sukhoi Su-35 Flanker E aircraft that Indonesia ordered from Russia in a fully armed configuration.

"The weapon is more than complete because it can reduce the discount, so there are additional," he said in Jakarta on Thursday.

The plan, the signing of the purchase of Sukhoi Su-35 Flanker E it will be done in November 2017.

"Already in November signature is ready, it is Rp16 trillion," he said.

However, he did not specify the type, type, and variant of weaponry he meant. Even so with avionics and radar systems on 11 units Sukhoi Su-35 Flanker E it.

Earlier, the Russian state-owned company Rostec signed a memorandum of understanding with Indonesian state-owned PT Indonesia Trade Company on the barter of 11 Sukhoi Su-35 Flanker E units with a number of national commodities.

The purchase of Sukhoi Su-35 Flanker E through the return mechanism is in accordance with Law No. 16/2012 on Defense Industry.

35 percent of transaction value on the procurement of Sumhoi Su-35 Flanker E is in the form of offset and 50 percent in the form of buy-back. Thus, Indonesia earns export value of 570 million US dollars from the total 1.14 billion US dollars worth of procurement.

While related to South Korean submarine, he said, there is still a problem in the transfer of technology.

"South Korean submarine we processed yesterday but slow because the ship is large but the battery is small, it (the submarine) the first. But I have directly to the factory, there while for the second and third submarines done at PT PAL," he said .

He said the government still will not increase the number of submarines again.

"We'll see if it's good to add more, not expensive, expensive buy technology and educate people who are expensive," he said."

Indonesian Navy receives second PKR frigate KRI I Gusti Ngurah Rai
Please, Log in or Register to view URLs content!

The Indonesian Navy received its second Perusak Kawal Rudal (PKR) guided-missile frigate KRI I Gusti Ngurah Rai during a ceremony in Surabaya, Indonesia, on October 30.

Named after the Indonesian War of Independence hero who fought against the Dutch between 1945 and 1949, KRI I Gusti Ngurah Rai is the second of two frigates built by Indonesian shipbuilder PT Pal and Dutch shipbuilder Damen through a transfer of technology agreement.

Based on Damen’s Sigma 10514 design, the vessels are built using a collaborative modular process operating simultaneously at Damen Schelde Naval Shipbuilding (DSNS) in the Netherlands and PT PAL shipyard in Indonesia.

Each is made up of six modules, and for the first vessel four of these were built at PT PAL. The other two were built and fully tested at DSNS in the Netherlands before being shipped for final assembly at PT PAL.

The 105-metre, 2,365 tonne PKR frigates are designed to undertake a range of missions in and around the waters of Indonesia. Their primary mission is anti-air, anti-surface and anti-submarine warfare. However, they are also equipped for maritime security, search and rescue, and humanitarian support tasks.

The propulsion system of the 105-meter PKR vessel utilises a combined diesel or electric (CODOE) which consists of two 10,000kW maximum continuous rating (MCR) diesel engines, two 1,300kW electric motors, two double input gearboxes and two 3.65 metre controllable pitch propellers. The vessel will be equipped with a sensor and weapon package to counter air, surface and sub-surface threats. It also carries two rigid hull inflatable boats (RHIBs) for rescue and patrol operations.

D&S 2017: Indonesian Navy receives second SIGMA

A second SIGMA 10514-class guided-missile frigate built in Indonesia was handed over to the Indonesian Navy (TNI-AL) on 30 October.

Defence Minister Ryamizard Rycacudu and TNI commander Gen Gatot Nurmantyo attended the handover ceremony for this 2,365t ship that will be called KRI I Gusti Ngurah Rai when commissioned before the end of the year.

Launched in September 2016, the Martadinata-class frigate was constructed in modular fashion by PT PAL in Surabaya under a technology transfer deal with Damen Schelde Naval Shipbuilding in the Netherlands. Approximately 75 personnel were trained in the Netherlands.

For this second vessel, the majority of hull modules were constructed in Indonesia. For those wondering, SIGMA stands for Ship Integrated Geometrical Modularity Approach.

Indonesia calls this programme Perusak Kawal Rudal (PKR), with the

commissioned on 7 April. The PKR class will consist of only two vessels.

The frigate measures 105.11m long and has a beam of 14.02m. Its top speed is listed as 28kt. It has a range of 5,000nm at 14kt and a 20-day endurance.

The PKR vessels employ a Thales TACTICOS combat management system, SMART-S Mk 2 surveillance radar and STIR 1.2 EO Mk 2 radar/electro-optical tracking system.

Operated by a complement of 122, the frigate’s armament consists of a 76mm gun, CIWS, MBDA VL-MICA surface-to-air missiles, MM40 Exocet Block 3 missiles and 324mm torpedoes.

Indonesia’s policy of Minimum Essential Force (MEF) seeks to create an armed force capable of defending the nation. The navy will thus use the ship to defend sovereign maritime territory and for missions such as search and rescue and humanitarian support.

Damen states that the SIGMA 10514’s ‘primary mission is anti-air, anti-surface and anti-submarine warfare’.

Singapore receives fourth Littoral Mission Vessel

The warship, which will be in service as RSS Justice with pennant number 18 once it is commissioned, was handed over by Singapore shipbuilder ST Marine on 31 October, sources close to the matter confirmed with Jane’s on the day after.

Justice , which was launched by ST Marine in March 2017, will now undergo an installation, checkout, integration, and testing (ICIT) phase for various systems on board the ship in the next few months. The platform is currently scheduled for commissioning in 2018.

Justice is part of a contract awarded to ST Marine in January 2013 for eight LMV platforms. The vessels are progressively replacing the RSN's fleet of Fearless-class patrol vessels that have been in service since the mid-1990s. First-of-class LMV, RSS Independence (15) was commissioned in May 2017 and is currently deployed with the RSN’s 182 Squadron as an operational component of the Singapore Armed Forces’ (SAF’s) Maritime Security Task Force (MSTF).

The LMV platform measures 80 m in length, 12 m in breadth, and has a hull draught of 3 m. Powered by two MTU 20V 4000 M93 engines in a combined diesel and diesel (CODAD) configuration, the 1,250-tonne warship has a top speed in excess of 27 kt and a standard range of 3,500 n miles at 15 kt.
