The Japanese governments have been handicapped by the fact that the head of state was not replaced at the end of WWII, as happened so conveniently in Germany and Italy.

The choice not to toss the head of state was made so as not to throw Japan into chaos or force a widespread resistance against the occupation by US forces. As was there were enough hold outs still fighting for the Japanese Empire to give anyone a head ache, and the powers of the Emperor were greatly curtailed. However that is historical having little to do with the function of this thread which is the "victory Parade".

If needing something on topic how about this: while you'd hardly find this on Western media outlets, on Chinese media there has been reports that the US is muscling behind-the-scenes to pull off yet another boycott, like the one against Moscow in May this year.

While nobody would be any surprise that Japan will boycott this, that by now the list of VIP has not yet released probably does indicate certain degree of politik powerplay?

For our non-Chinese speaking friends out there, the 4 pointers below just the details of implementation, such as traffic re-routing and subways service issues; what's important is in the 2nd paragraph and I'll sum it up for you:
Dress rehearsals will be conducted on August 13th-15th, from 2230hrs to 0400hrs the next day, covers the length of Chang'an Avenue (the usual parade stretch) and surrounding streets.

Don't know if it was the Tianjin kaboom caught all the attention, or there's a serious clampdown on the details of the parade, there's next to zilch when comes to the dress rehearsals at Beijing, when compare with 2009 parade we got a peek with the vehicles and stuff....

But despite all that, seems there's one sneak peek / leak, just part of the foot mobile formations:

According to some entries, those 2 nights' rehersals only involved the foot mobiles, no vehicle elements. Would there be another full dress rehersals a few days before the real deal?

Yes, the photos are hard to come by. I have just this one collage photo of the armor formations at the dress rehearsal. The naval blue camouflage pattern seems new.

Don't be surprised if that parade does not get massively rethought and redesigned after Tianjin. If its not led by a column of firefighters, I will be amazed. A purely military parade will not go over well right now.

It's too late / last minute to scratch together a firefighter formation at this stage, certainly can't call in those from Tianjin because they're now more than badly needed at Tianjin, and they'd be too knackered after this hard fight, and losing that many of their numbers. They're in no shape for parade, nor the proper mindset / mood to do it right.

And certainly the context would be all wrong if to throw in this extra theme now, juggle the whole thing. Y'know, it's not like the "Total Defense" concept that Singapore adopted for so many years, that they can incorporate a full set of civil defense / firefighting hardware and demo in vehicle column...and not to mention that'd be too off-topic.

If it'd be incorporated at all, at most an extra minute of remembrance / moment of silence for those firefighters lost in the Tianjin explosion.
