Hong-Kong Protests

Let's say the short term goal of the violence was to draw in PLA/PAP (I've heard this too). Even if PAP or PLA was to come in and just start shooting everyone, what would the end game of even this be?

The funny thing is I don't think the rioters care. Before, these rioters are nobody. Now, they think they are somebody. That's why they are so obsessed with the media and foreigners especially the foreign media and foreign governments. They want the world to look at them as some sort of martyrs that fight for freedom and injustice. Sadly, they don't understand most westerners are just shedding crocodile tears.

1. Invite Western military intervention to "save" HK
This is the most outrageous of the possibilities I have heard. Basically you want to turn up the violence to a level where it prompts some kind of massacre to happen in your own city. As if this level of mass death was not enough, you want a war to happen and more people to die? Heck, it would likely be some kind of World War were it to happen. Furthermore, this would be so blatantly ignorant of reality, the US didn't liberate PRC after Tienanmen, they didn't liberate Crimea from Russia either.

2. Sanctions to collapse the CCP and "free" China (or at least HK)
Sanctions don't work. History shows it. Fidel had a nice long career and life. Sadaam was ultimately brought down by another war, not sanctions. Putin is still around. I posted an article in the Economics thread, Huawei was already able to turnaround an "America-Free" phone. Jimmy Lie, spreading unrealistic ideas to promote his/America's agenda.

Most of the rioters are hoping that the second scenario would occur. Like other members said for the brainwashed radicals "If I don't get my way, no one will get his/her as well." But for some one like Jimmy Lai, he has a more realistic expectation. Jimmy Lai knew that President Xi is under tremendous pressure due to the Xinjiang, trade wars, and now Hong Kong. He thought that if he could force the central government to send in the military, then a worldwide(western) sanctions would cripple the Chinese economy. Jimmy Lai is hoping that other factions with CCP would force Xi to step down and a more moderate leader within CCP would assume control. As long as it isn't Xi, Jimmy Lai and many elites in HK think that they could coordinate with the fellow liberals in China to bring down the CCP like they were doing in the last few decades. They think they come close of weakening the CCP before Xi assumed the role of president.

I think this is the obvious sign of how the so-called "leaderless" is simply poison for HK, tailor-made just to sow discord, and chaos. None of these outcomes are realistic, or actually benefit HK. The reason the "black hand(s) behind the protest" theory is so popular is because the actual motivations are so murky, and any real realistic positive outcome even more so.

Sadly, it is never about HK. It is more a desperate move by the western powers to make a last stand before China became unstoppable.

Just a little reality check.

Not all Hong Kong school are anti-China, this school in teun moon, just south of yuen long (where the alledge triads from) holds a flag raising ceremony once a month. Sorry can't translate all for those that don't read Chinese. But I think you get the idea. And a reminder not ALL Hong Kongers are with the thugs!

I see this as China saying that the U.S. can forget about putting a military base in Hong Kong -- and telling the world that China is quite willing and quite able to enforce this.
When was China ever going to allow the US to put a military base in HK???

The answer is "Never" of course, as anyone who knows recent Chinese history (the last 100-200 years or so) should instantly realize. China would never want a US military base in Hong Kong, or anywhere else in her territory.

But for most of the 20th century the Middle Kingdom would not have been able to prevent the Yanks from establishing a base if they had wanted to do so.

However, now China is strong enough to say "No" and make it stick. The meaning of what I wrote ("quite able to enforce this") should have been obvious -- or so I thought.

Firstly, there were never millions to begin with.

"Millions" is what the protesters claimed. I thought you believed them. In any case, it is clear that there were a lot of protesters in the summer -- and nearly all of them have NOT been showing up in recent protests. How can you twist this as evidence that most people are supporting the cockroaches? (As I said, the election is only one of several factors.)

In the interest of staying within the boundaries of a civilized conservation, I'll choose to overlook your sarcasm. Firstly, you need to understand all the major rallies over the summer are organized by one group called "Civil Human Rights Front". The Civil Human Rights Front is an umbrella organization that comprises of all major oppositions. The recent rallies are not organized by the Civil Human Rights Front. Not all of rallies organized by the Civil Human Rights Front are successful but all the successful rallies are organized by the Civil Human Rights Front.

To expand of what I said before, after six months of protests people do get tired and exhausted. Many of them might have been scared away by the brutality and violence and don't want to directly participating in protests. Many moderate protesters are middle class, college students, elderly, parents, elites, politicians and religious people. These are the people who support the rioters behind the scene. These are the people who provide transport, finance, maintain lennon walls, spread propaganda. These are the people that have too much to lose. So do they still support the protests? Is the movement losing its momentum?

Even foreign media have started to notice of uptick in anger over the protesters but the election result pointed out it isn't so simple. The pan-Dems camp won the election decisively. No matter how much you tried to dismiss and discredit the voting result. The pan-Dem camp won and has the mandate. What did the pan-Dems camp do after they won the elections. They wanted to legalize the lennon walls or at least built a few legal lennon walls. They organized another major rally on 12/8 and threatened more violent protests if the HK government didn't agree to their five demands by 12/8.

So you have it. The pan-Dems camp used its mandate to continue the movement and legitimatize the rioters. The western media and government now can say they are just supporting the will of the HK people. The opposition only needs tens of thousands of people to maintain their violent protests. As long as there are still tens of thousands radicals then the riots continue. Your so called evidence is meaningless. Most people don't need to "directly" support the rioters, as long as most people "directly" or "indirectly" support the rioters the result would be the same.

Let me remind you. Some moderates might not like violence but they have never condemned the rioters.

Maybe because I'm in education, so am more sensitive when I see things like this. Now if this was me doing this in my college in the UK, or anywhere in the western world. Men in black would be round to take me away before I even got a chance to post this all over the internet! And righly so!

So why is it he's allowed, and it seem to everyone in the MSM, this is ok behaviour?

In case, anyone don't see anything wrong with this. It is the five finger statement representing the 5 demands! So it is a political statement in the school!
