What we see at Huludao right now are actually three different boats.

The one in the drydock is not identical to the eastern boat in the water.

The boat in the drydock is sligthly longer and the distance between sail and bow is shorter, moreover the sail is different. This could be 095.

The eastern one in the water is clearly a 093 mod. It has a sonar pipe along the hull much like the US boats and it is different from the one just next to it which is a standard 093 (maybe returned for overhaul)

Cheers

BTW: Bing has better images showing 093mod & 094

All 3 of them are about 105 to 106 m and about 10.5 to 11 m wide. The 2 in the water are boat 093B. They have the same dimensions. Yulin has submarine base have the 2 earlier 093s.

I don't know what images you measured or what you are using when you posted those photos on top of each other, but i got same measurement using google map for the 2 093s parked next to each other. We know there was only 2 093 built and they are both at Yulin naval base. As for sonar pipe as you call it, I'm assuming you are referring to flank array sonar. Every 093s have it. But only the new 093s are wider and have what appears to be a hump. Depending on surrounding conditions and time of day, you can get shadow affect on one side. And when we have images from this far out, certain bright or darker spots are lest trustworthy than the doing overall measurement of length and beam of the boat. Also, there are photos posted of the two 093Bs a couple of pages back that are not photos from directly overhead and they look the same variant.

As for the one in the dock, the construction is not complete to the point where we can accurately predict what is what on the boat. But it's length and beam is about the same as the 093s. As for your argument about distance to sail, later 094s had sail moved forward, but they are still 094s.

btw, I checked bing map yesterday, it still shows 2 094s at Huludao.

Given the current state of Chinese Submarine technology, what are the chances that a Type 94 submarine could enter the Western Pacific without being tracked? What measures do US and allies have in place to detect Chinese submarines? And if so, what countermeasures could China deploy to break defeat such attempts at detection?

I'd say they are about 5%, the Type 94s as well as the Liaoning are no doubt of interest to the "interested parties", I imagine that we will see some attempts to "break out" of the island chain in the near future,,,, some attempts will likely be successful, but we shall see???

Well there is no point for liaoning to break out since satellites can undoubtedly track its movements. But what's the chance of the U.S. setting up a solus system in the area to track submarines?
