For such weapons, VLS is entirely feasible, since the goal is to gain max altitude and then dive down into the target at extreme speed.

They won't want to fit such launchers in every cell, but they could easily design 4-8 VLS banks as a magazine for a single launch cell. So you have 1 launch cell for a roll of 4-8 cell bank. The remaining 3-7 cells becomes a magazine for the launch cell (and could easily be double, triple or even quad stacked with missiles since the projectiles will only be a fraction of the launch tube length), with a simple autoloader system to feed munitions across (could even allow multiple munitions types to be stored in different cells to be picked by the autoloader as needed).
It sounds like you're envisioning a rectangular "bank" of cells. This type of launch pattern would actually be more doable with a revolver style EM launcher with a canister of 6-8 missiles in a rotary magazine grouped around a single EM launcher. You would have a bank of such launchers all looking like a 052C VLS bank.

Plawolf, Iron Man, you're bound to be wrong in the details, as I would be, but I agree that just translating existing methods to EM launchers is too simplistic.

actually it's not breaking news at all but anyway:

This is already outdated, there are currently 25 Type 054A in service, this chart shows 24. I also expect Type 056 to be more than 40, its also likely Type 052D will be more than 12 and who knows, maybe we'll even see the next carrier launched by then.

"Q: According to foreign reports, July 2, the United States, "Stan Saim" missile destroyer into the Chinese Xisha Islands territorial waters. What is China's comment on this?

A: July 2, the United States "Stan Samet" missile destroyer unauthorized access to China's Xisha Islands territorial waters. China then sent warships and fighters on the US ship to implement a warning to drive away.

The Xisha Islands are the inherent territory of China. According to the Law of the People's Republic of China on territorial waters and contiguous zones, the Chinese government announced in 1996 the territorial waters of the Xisha Islands. The relevant laws of China have made clear provisions concerning the entry of foreign warships into China's territorial waters.

The United States under the banner of "freedom of navigation", once again sent warships to enter China's Xisha Islands territorial waters, in violation of Chinese law and related international law, a serious violation of China's sovereignty, destruction of the waters of peace, security and good order, endanger the island facilities and personnel Security, is a serious political and military provocation. The Chinese side expressed strong dissatisfaction and resolute opposition to the US side.

At present, with the joint efforts of China and ASEAN countries, the situation in the South China Sea has slowed down and continues to show a positive development trend. The United States deliberately provoked the incident in the South China Sea, and regional countries seeking stability, promote cooperation and development of the common desire to run counter to.

China strongly urges the US side to immediately stop such provocative actions that seriously violate China's sovereignty and threaten China's security. China will continue to take all necessary measures to safeguard national sovereignty and security."

occupied by Beijing as a "serious political and military provocation", a move that could further strain relations between the superpowers.

Beijing dispatched military vessels and fighter planes in response to warn off the US vessel, foreign ministry spokesman Lu Kang said in a statement late on Sunday night, state news agency Xinhua reported.

The USS Stethem destroyer passed less than 12 nautical miles (22 kilometres) from tiny Triton Island in the Paracel Islands archipelago, which is also claimed by Taiwan and Vietnam, a US official told AFP news agency.

The operation, meant to demonstrate freedom of navigation in disputed waters, came just hours before a previously scheduled phone call between US President

.

"The Chinese side strongly urges the US side to immediately stop such kind of provocative operations that violate China's sovereignty and threaten China's security," the Chinese spokesman said, adding that Beijing would continue to take all necessary means to defend national sovereignty and security, according to Xinhua.

Twelve nautical miles marks the territorial limits recognised internationally. Sailing within those 12 miles is meant to show that the US does not recognise territorial claims there.

The operation is the second of its kind carried out by the US since Trump took office.

The first was on May 25, when the USS Dewey, a guided-missile destroyer, sailed less than 12 nautical miles from Mischief Reef - part of the disputed Spratly Islands south of the Paracel Islands.

China has rapidly built reefs into artificial islands capable of hosting military planes.

Freedom of navigation operations are designed to challenge the sovereignty of countries with claims to disputed territory. Washington has challenged annexations of South China Sea islets while advocating for a diplomatic settlement.

China has recently built up its facilities on Triton Island, including a new helicopter landing site, according to the Asia Maritime Transparency Initiative, part of the Center for Strategic and International Studies think-tank.

A large Chinese flag is displayed on the island, visible from aerial and satellite photos.

China's defense ministry says U.S. damaged stability in South China Sea

The United States has seriously damaged peace and stability in the South China Sea after a U.S. warship sailed near a disputed island in waters claimed by China, the Asian nation's defense ministry said on Monday.

The ministry resolutely opposes the entry of U.S. warships into Chinese territory, it said in a statement on social media.

The actions of the United States navy seriously damaged the "political atmosphere" around the development of military ties between the two countries, the ministry added.

The USS Stethem, a guided-missile destroyer, sailed within 12 nautical miles of Triton Island, part of the Paracel Islands in the South China Sea, a U.S. Defense Department official said.
