    (V) the Iranian on the ground military industrial capacity is severely limited to virtually nonexistent.
F5 was designed to be maintained by third world parties. This is why it’s favored as their “New aircraft”
More complex systems demand more on the ground infrastructure. The Iranian Air forces have maintain what they have at high costs and cannibalizing parts from beyond service life aircraft to retain operations.
Their maintenance of and appearance of “New Helicopters” has been primarily by repair of existing aircraft or importing crashed aircraft and rebuild.

Maintaining F5 is not the same as totally indigenising 100% of its parts and upgrading virtually every aspect of it minus the airframe (e.g. avionics, radar, fire control system, etc). This is a big achievement for a country that had no industrial base and in 1979 could barely manufacture a bullet itself.

Of course there is a long way to go but you would be surprised to see the strides Iran has made - and continues to make - in this area. Mass production of a fully indigenous J85 may seem primitive to you but for Iran it is a miracle. And I strongly believe we will see mass production of a J79/RD33 level engine in the next 4-6 years. That will be another huge milestone.

These things take time though, generations of iterations and experience. Iran only started this process in the '90s so it is many generations behind other powers. But as far as I am concerned, to go from where the industrial base was in 1979 to where it is today, in the context of chokingly strict sanctions that prohibit the import of many basic materials etc, is a huge achievement and one I am proud of.

However, I am also realistic. We see how much investment a country like China has made in its air force and engine technology, along with huge espionage etc, and still after decades they are struggling to match 5G engine technology. Iran has sanctions and a MUCH smaller budget, so it is unreasonable to think Iran can have the same progress as China in this area (for example).

The Su-30 should be relatively inexpensive and it is a large twin-engine aircraft which could replace the F-14.
Unlike the F-14 it can fire the Kh-31 anti-ship missile and has multi-role capabilities.
If even Myanmar can find the money to order Su-30s so can Iran.

If Russia is willing to offer full ToT then Iran will be happy to buy the su-30.

Not world war 3 but a large number of small insurgent wars across the Middle East flare heavily.

The crew themselves said they were attacked from the air and there was a MQ-9 in the air at the time...
