Continued from previous thread here:

This thread will be for IRBMs and SRBMs, and will include weapons in this category which may have the option to fit nuclear warheads but which the primary warheads are conventional.

A separate thread will be for primarily Nuclear missiles (ICBMs, SLBMs) and nuclear weapons developments, here:

Would DF-27 be counted as IRBM or ICBM? The often quoted range of DF-27 is between 5000-8000 kilometers.

By Western classification, ICBM is over 5500 kilometers; by Chinese classification, ICBM is over 8000 kilometers.

i wonder SRBM units can move long distance to different theatre for operation that lasts long (1 month+)?

i mean the logistics and equipment maintenance could be a big problem - do they share that infra with local units?

Well, you don't want to have too many obsolete SRBMs in ~ 10-15 years, do you?

I think produce enough and then keep upgrading them
Sure. But China is still in the middle of expanding her ballistic and hypersonic missile arsenal. The point of which those missiles become utterly obsolete and have to be replaced en-masse is still many years away, I believe.

Can those TELs be carried onboard flatbed trains? Rail transportation solves a lot of problems related to transporting them across huge distances.

surely they can, but just moving is not the biggest headache, rather than keeping their combat effectiveness.

think of heavy armor units, all the maintenance sub units need to come along with the combat team and keep functioning outside their home base.

i dont know but i think a SRBM bde is probably even more difficult to maintain and support, which is why i think maybe they have some sort of pre designated location for operation, cannot just move to any random place and be operational
