Wasn't this supposed to already have been contracted a few years ago, I'm confused...

Maybe it's due to engine, because of the war in Ukraine, maybe now there is Chinese engine...

Before an actual contract is signed and making the deal confirm, they may entered into an MOU (Memorandum of Understanding) or a letter of Intend to purchase the aircraft, but MOU or Letter of Intend signed earlier are not legally binding document.

Many people cannot differentiate the Contract, MOU and Latter of Intend, thus the confusion.

@Deino Fu Qian Shao just made a video , quoting you as the source that UAE bought L-15 for Al Fursan (UAE Aerobatics team).

Well ... I surely wasn't the first one and also for the Al Fursan it wasn't me, who mentioned this first. I think I only was the first who mentioned it on Twitter ... even if - as it seems by now - this info is wrong!

According to the sales manager (?) at the show, the UAE's L-15 are not yet build and are only ready within about two years.

What about the Al-222 engine situation? With Ukraine getting bombed and that.
I know Russia managed to produce it, and recently resumed Yak-130 production, but the numbers they produce are still kinda limited.
Might not be enough to cover exports in the short term. And Klimov is probably working like busy bees since they also make helicopter engines.

There is this story about Russia recently completing a digital twin of the Al-222. This should help with future modifications to the engine.

The article also says:
"In addition to the virtual commercial engine, an export version mockup of this propulsion is to be completed by Moscow-based Salyut company in early 2023. The project work was carried out in close cooperation with Moscow Aviation Institute."

Russia, Salyut production complex (part of Rostec United Engine Corporation) has successfully completed the first tests of a new high-pressure compressor for the modernized AI-222-25 engine.
