So, likely will have a well deck ? any confirmation of the dimensions and displacement ?

The request for proposal (RFP) for the 076 does mention well deck, so there's that.

• Dimension-wise, I think it could be slightly larger than the 075.
• Displacement-wise, my wild guess is somewhere around 45-50 thousand tons, considering that 076 isn't "just a typical LHD" like the 075.

For comparison, the full displacement of the 075 LHD is ~40 thousand tons, while Liaoning and Shandong are ~65 thousand tons.

"Reference materials" is putting it a bit strongly.

CGIs that are done as a result of speculation (i.e. not informed by any specific, exclusive insider knowledge) should be treated just as entertainment.


So long as the pictures and the comments are all understood in that context, it's fine.

If they are going to incorporate cats and traps they will have an angled deck 99%. It is a safety requirement. Unlike STOL and VTOL aircraft, aircraft that need arresting are fast during the approach. That means, if they miss, they can easily run into other aircraft or the island without an angled deck.

This is finally a design which I personally think is a bit more viable than the other ones we've seen before (in particular the presence of the angled deck, and the removal of the aft elevator to deck edge elevator).

Though not so sure about the azipods. I also wonder if it may have a slightly smaller island than depicted (which is essentially here just a 075 island with a 054B radar), and perhaps even changing the bow elevator to a similar deck edge elevator to the aft.

However, there is one issue.


Notice how thin the layer which makes up the flight deck and the celling of the hangar deck on the 075 is.

If the 076 does have EMALS and arresting gear, then with the same thickness of the flight deck layer, both equipment will certainly eat into the hangar deck space underneath. This could have significant impact on the hangar space, and thus, the capacity of the UCAVs and helicopters that can be carried onboard the 076.

Besides, there is also the 076's flight deck itself, which is going to require stronger built and reinforcement against jet blasts and impact forces of the UCAVs while landing on the LHD. These are things that the 075 doesn't have to deal with.

So, what's your view on this?

Then I think we can confidently conclude that the 076 is almost certain to be an angled-deck LHD.

There is an easy solution for all that problems, just make the ship larger

I think a CATOBAR LHD is a good idea for China. Drones are an integral part of land warfare and STOL and VTOL always come with compromises, especially if you are going to launch anything beyond mini-UAVs.

That's going to make the 076 into a medium carrier with a well deck instead of an LHD fitted with CATOBAR...

(Well, personally I don't mind that being the case, but still, there remain concerns with cost, material, construction time, manpower requirement etc... ugh... )

On a slightly-related note: The US took around 4-5 years to build one Wasp LHD and 6 years to build one America LHA. Meanwhile, China took around 2.5 years to build one 075 LHD, so... try make a guess for the 076 LHD?

I wonder if a massive UUV can be launched from the well deck. That would give the 075 and 076 some incredible long range strike capability.

I can't see why you can't launch USVs and UUVs from the well deck. I am skeptical about their usefulness in open ocean battles though. USVs can be used for aiding air defense (Picket and EW roles) but UUVs would be quite limited in speed and endurance.

My view is, why are you assuming that the overall and relative dimensions of the hull and relative compartments would follow that of 075 exactly?
