They've a specialist team just for the UI (the UI on monitors and touchscreens in the movies are presented as-is, instead of post-production add-in, so to enhance realism), and the heavy vehicles are not props but real deal sponsored by XCMG, and the production crew complained about how much effort they needed in order to break the windscreen as those come standard with ballistic glass.

Saw The Wandering Earth II over the weekend; great film as a prequel.
Unlike modern american films where the male leads are portrayed as bumbling goofballs and emotional wrecks for the Mary Sue Heroine (Looking at you, Feige era Star Wars), the main characters of The Wandering Earth are stoic, strong, dutybound and heroic.
The theme of having to beware of AI (also a plotline in the first film) was interesting as was the depiction of robots which reminded me of the walking refrigerators in Interstellar.

It was good that Chinese cinema is now introducing the malevolent american into its films as the United States in our timeline is preparing itself for an 'all of society' war against China.
Feige is Marvel
Kathleen Kennedy is in charge of Star Wars

Unrelated to anything being discussed, Batman and Robin was on TV on the weekend, lol

As bad as I remember it, and I was just a kid when I saw it, hahaha

Some random thoughts after watching The Way of Water, I have really noticed that alot of movie scripts demand alot more from the actresses than from the actors. Most male characters (main protagonists) are written to be stoic diamond faced statues that doesn't emote to anything ever or stoic villains that occasionally grins menacingly before defaulting to not reacting to anything ever. Whereas female characters(MC's love interest) are written to emote alot more and respond dramatically to a significant emotional events.
I don't think Jake even looks sad after his son died???
There are of course female protagonist written to be diamond statutes, but they typically aren't nearly as well-accepted, such as Ray from the New star wars.
I think it's more on Sam Worthington than any sort of preference in Cameron's movies where the male characters have to be stoic and emotionally detached. Leo was quite emotive in Titanic; True Lies was a comedy so one could argue Arnold and the main baddie were exaggerated in their expressions; then Arnold was a cyborg in the Terminator movies, still Eddie Furlong did plenty of emotions for the both of them; Ed Harris in The Abyss and Michael Biehn in Aliens were pretty expressive characters... and of course who can forget "Game over, man!" Hudson lol.
Anyway, Jake in Avatar was written as a former Marine so he was used to deaths happening around him. Still, his own son did die. Personally I think Mel Gibson does the best grief in terms of playing a father losing his child. When Neteyam went lights out and Neytiri was in full wailing mode, I was half-expecting Jake to shakily stare at his dead son in horror and disbelief then finally gives in and sobs just like Gibson did in The Patriot, or Edge of Darkness for example.

I think the best comparison can be made between Neteyam and Thomas' death in The Patriot. In it Gibson was similarly very stoic the first time his son died in his arms, as he saw the danger all around him was not over and Gabriel was taken before his eyes, just like in The Way of Water with the girls still being held captive and Jake had to save them before he could grief -

Still, I thought Jake could've done a Mel Gibson anyway but then he would gather himself before he did the same for Neytiri with the "I need you to be strong heart" as they then went off to save the girls, and that would've worked, too, I reckon -

On the topic of Star Wars,

I'm sure everyone's heard enough dunking on the Sequel trilogy at this but I'm going to dunk them right now because they deserve it for being

I personally don't understand why people like The Force Awakens at all, the most enjoyment I had is watch the title crawl at the beginning. There's zero world-building, the Empire is back and somehow more powerful because of course they are, and this 'republic' that existed for 3 minutes for the sole purpose of being blown up by Neo Deathstar, things are sounds important(like the Neo deathstar) are casually brought up and then destroyed with zero long term consequence whatsoever, remember how the destruction of the original death star is the end of the original trilogy while the destruction of the neo death star is a "yea, whatever" moment for both side involved?
The plot is devoid of any suspense or intrigue because you've watched/read it before(the biggest reason personally) and the visuals and actions are nothing special.
The characters are either mid or laughable, Rey is synthetic diamond of a character, she's super serious, good at everything from the get go and clearly requires no character development and there's Fin the former stormtrooper who got the big sad from his buddy being KIA and cured it by betraying and slaughtering the rest of his buddies immediately after. Who tf wrote this? The nostalgia baiting also does nothing to me, it's just feel so unoriginal and underdeveloped in everything, the plot, visuals, world-building and characters.

I'm one of the person who enjoyed the Last Jedi alot more than The Force Awakens, because a 'wait, wtf?' movie is alot more enjoyable than a bland predictable one. I applaud Rian Johnson as the man who would boldly interrupt a boring social gathering with a clown parade because at least something interesting is happening now. Sure, it might be full of red herring plot-lines and bizarre, frustrating character decisions but at least something entertaining(in a clownish manner) is happening on screen.

I did not watch the Rise of Skywalker, the moment I heard that Palps is returning I lost any interests in watching, JJ Abrams is literally tearing down everything that mattered in entire original trilogy and lighting it up as bonfire just so that he can shamelessly nostalgia bait a little more. Nothing I've heard about it sounds remotely interesting, boring mcguffin goose chase with boring characters, antagonists/threat out of a extremely bad fan-fiction, it's quite literally:
"Oh no! Palpatine somehow returned with one million star destroyers on Planet Evil Dark, also Rey is Palp's granddaughter wuttt???"
The best complement I can give is that at least JJ abrams resisted the urge to give Palps one hundred starkiller base as well(that all spontaneously explodes at the end). Oh and Rey calls herself Skywalker and that's apparently the rise of Skywalker I guess. Couldn't read more like a shitty fanfic if it tried, it isn't just bad as a standalone, it retroactively made all the previous movies worse by erasing their impact.

Come to think of it, the only good Star Movie that has came out since the prequels is Rogue One, a movie that is actually thoroughly interesting to watch without resorting to throwing BS at the wall. Maybe it's just a average movie and the extreme shittiness of the sequels made a movie that's merely decent a glowing star in comparison.

One thing that always annoys me about star wars is that the villains always gets to blow up planets and such and the heroes basically don't get to deliver the kind of retribution that would leave the villains begging for mercy and then a whole lot more because I am pretty sure blowing up the planet is a crime that should result in the deaths of every villain as a bare minimum. I mean this kind of crap happened in World of warcraft as well with the burning of teldrassil (which is basically an island full of one race and therefore several cities) which gained almost next to nothing in terms of retribution.
That is why many people see this kind of crap and feel that there is some kind of bias towards making the villains sympathetic to the point where the heroes feel bad for harming them even though they crossed the line. Kinda makes it so I have not seen a movie for almost 2 whole years because of how crap they have become in regards to this

Because they blew up bland, inconsequential planets that the audience have zero attachment to, there is no catharsis for punishing a villain for destroying something nobody cares about. Absolutely nobody in the audience has any reaction to the first order destroyed the "Republic" because it is not a real thing that exists in the movie, it only exists long enough as a target dummy to be destroyed by Neo Deathstar, it might as well as an empty asteroid because you don't know anything about them to care. Had the villain being destroying anything the audience actually gives a shit about, there would catharsis in retribution, but since the villain didn't actually kill anyone worthwhile, no retribution is met because it would be narratively/emotionally pointless.

The world building of Star Wars outside of the prequels has never being good, in the sequel, the world building straight up don't exist. Would you care about Generic Desert Planet that is 95% human and 5% random muppet masquerading as aliens? You won't, especially when the movie go out of its way to show that Rey has no family or friend that stays there. I cannot believe how utterly non existent the world building in star wars is, everything is so generic, planets are generated and discarded every 5 minutes, the prequel actually tried to make the Galaxy feel like a an actual world where places have something actually interesting going on.
