I don't think there will be a hot war between two nuclear superpowers with 700 billion inter-trade, at best a repeat of Cold War 2.0, esp in technology.

Given American politicians are lot of dumber than politicians during the first Cold War when they are at least pragmatic. I am not so sure there wouldn't be a hot war.
Some prep is needed but realistically, China has the economical/industrial upper hand which translates to de facto military upper hand as well, even if it might not be obvious because US has mobilized much more of their society percentage wise vis a vis China.
US didn't need to put all their population on total war mode to deal with USSR and China will likely not need extremist politics to deal with US either.
A government strong in willpower, a vigilant and satisfied population, will be sufficient. China needs to shift its population towards doubt and harsh criticism against American culture, American leaders and American products. But it does not need to go as far as to create hate against them or instill a siege mentality like for example Israelis have against Arabs.
China's biggest questions is how to manage America's decline, not putting America into a corner. For that, pragmatism will be needed.

A country that has over $280b trade surplus, lowest debt of industrialized country, that is creating Aviation Industry that will be bigger than the rest, It has alot of followers ideologically, culturally and increasingly in Economics and Science. As i said if there was any other country that started War in Europe. The attitude of India, Turks and the rest would have been very different. and Japanese would certainly not declare so many of its car exports as used.
Mutual nuclear destruction is lame big time... drawing a redline is quite hard. Trade and technology war seem more logical.
Even if it's more logical, people in power in the west are clearly old oligarch bastards that would benefit from it for the last 10 or 15 years of their life even if it's a nuclear war... so they don't care at all. They would go on a little island in the south, play with kids or something and let the rest scorching themselves..
Iran is a shame.
On a daily basis being humiliated by Israel and the USA and cannot do anything to respond to the provocations received. Drone attacks against industries and military installations in Israel and in the USA? no news.
But, at the first chance, the Iranian government will beg for Boeing planes, which they so worship as a religion. They never even consider buying new planes from alternative and potencially allied sources to replace the old crap planes that they have.
It is no wonder that the youth and a large part of the population are against the government and want to kneel down to the West. Unlike China and Russia, the Iranian government is not able to give its own people any pride.

Iran is just in a place where China was like 10 years ago and Russia 5 years, where most people rather life in the more stable global north. But look at China now you would be a loser if your Chinese and go to the west as some sort of loser back home. Russians got a mental shock therapy last year with everything the west threw at Russia.
I wouldn't be surprise if in 2030~2035 Iran will be a completely different country with investment into infrastructure and its energy sector from China and Russia.

You must have missed the ballistic missile attacks on American/Israeli bases in Iraq. Or the defeat of the western baced ISIS jihadists in Syria. Even back in 2006 the Iranian backed Hezbollah managed to issue the Israelis a well deserved spanking when they tried to invade Lebanon.
Iran has done remarkably well given the economic and cultural warfare declared against it. They were an enemy of both the west and the Soviet Union.
The idea that youth in Iran are against the regime is a western lie, you'd think they would stop using it after 30 years. Iran has the Basiji the biggest all volunteer militia in the Middle East, they aren't staffed by grandparents.
