Clearly, you didn't read the article. The article said that free PCR would extend to end of December. It said nothing about charging for PCR after that. Shanghai has extended free PCR tests multiple times already. It probably would continue to offer free PCR tests after December.
I read the article and as I said, just thingking about charging for testing is not good, much less annoucing just to extending the deadline. It gives a false hope of opening, which doesn't happen maybe even in 5 or 10 years. CCP should prepare to hold well to Zero-covid for as long as possible. Half ass deadline should be avoided at all cost. Any sign of reopening must be abandoned for saving lives.

did anyone hear about that fire in the Urumqi building that killed 10 people? apparently the fire brigade couldn't get there in time due to so many covid barriers blocking the path and people couldn't escape cause the building was locked due to covid measures

Why would you think China would need to wait for 5 to 10 years before reopening. It is unreasonable and not doable. Beside, CPC never said that it would maintain zero covid for that long.

More over, Shanghai and many other provinces and cities within China have the same policies of extending free PCR every few months so these kinds of announcements have been around for sometime and not unexpected or unusual.

At the moment, the Chinese government is moving slowly for reopening rather than continue the strict zero covid policies. If it wanted to maintain zero covid, then it would need to impose more restrict quarantine arrangement rather than relaxing it. It would also need to do another round of nationwide soft lockdown in order to rein in this wave of covid.

I do support zero covid but don't foresee the Chinese government to continue zero covid for long as the costs have become much more unbearable. CPC probably is trying to minimize deaths and hospitalizations by slowly moving away from restrict zero covid policies and buying time for better medicines to become available for critical patients.

And you believe such rumors which are nothing but hearsay. It is sad that people and NED were so upset about this incident and keep using slander and lies and rumors to discredit zero covid but at the same time keep trying to convince that covid is just a flu and millions deaths are no big deal.

Nothing to do with covid, parked cars blocking as usual. NED spreads lies like these to start color revolutions.

It is a low risk area which means that there wouldn't be any heavy handed policies and restrictions. Beside, unless their homes were locked from outside, other restrictions don't really affect firemen from saving these people.
