So regional security is on the agenda. We know that the Saudis are increasingly looking to China for weaponry. There is a video online of Saudis walking into Zhuhai air show like they own the place and looking over a whole bunch of stuff. We know that VN-20 is a special UAE requested product.

Xi should be meeting with all 6 countries of GCC. Great opportunity for China to score some major military deals here and for further integrating itself into the technology and financial infrastructure of the Middle East. You don't want to let your western allies install Huawei gears? Fine, all your calls with your Middle East "allies" will be done on Huawei gear.

Anyhow, a very important visit for Xi. Don't mess it up. Outside of the recent overtures in ASEAN and Central Asian countries, winning over Arab countries should be the final leg of the Asia strategy.

lol at the people who thought that China should respond to the chip ban by immediately banning Apple and Microsoft.

BB Marcos is coming to Beijing for a state visit in January. That's good news I think.

China's approach to Cambodia is to just keep giving it goodies and military gear. I assume in exchange for greater involvement in that base. Again, not saying they will have a permanent base there.

Biden on the other hand continues to make gaffes

The fatigue that comes from flying halfway around the world may be catching up to Biden. In his remarks at the ASEAN summit, he apparently mistook the host country, Cambodia, for a South American nation with the same first letter and number of syllables.

He expressed thanks for Colombia’s leadership.

Digital Silk Road is a real thing. I think it will be high on the agenda on Chinese diplomacy now. Get other countries to use Chinese tech.

For example, when meeting with Singapore, the discussion is on cooperating on green & digital economy

when meeting with Cambodia, discussions on 5G and AI

Another thing that seems to be growing with BRI countries is space cooperation. Especially Beidou cooperation al the way around.

as usual, Saudis are interested in Chinese space technology

and we know from a few weeks ago that UAE will be part of China's lunar rover mission

I posted this on the other thread.

A whole host of weapons that China is in discussion with Saudi Arabia, Algeria and Egypt. There is also the VN20 with UAE. And then, you see the discussion about military infrastructure/communication with Bahrain.

There these cybersecurity cooperation with Saudis here, presuming Huawei involvement.

And we know that UAE has also really embraced working with Huawei on 5G, datacenter and AI.

And then, there is the rumors like this
传说沙特谈了三个合成旅,重型、中型和轻型各一个,不知道真假
We know China has been showing entire combined arms brigade on Zhuhai air show. It's obvious when they advertise these full systems for armed brigade, for anti-drone air defense (protecting oil) and for unmanned battalions, they are prepared for Middle East customers. So, the rumor that China will sell 3 armed brigades to Saudis is quite believable.

The implication of selling not just weapons, but also command centers, communication system, logistical support, entire infrastructure and cyber security is quite large. Any country that you sell these things to are basically going to be dependent on you for security going forward. So, we are seeing an all out blitz here by China to court Middle Eastern countries. Will find out in Xi's visit in December how deep they are getting.

So in G20, the G7 countries + EU came out with this new program to counter BRI called Partnership for Global Infrastructure and Investment (PGII). It seems like Western countries are just obsessed about copying China's moves without even understanding why they are made. There are clearly objectives to the BRI which is to re-orient commerce, trading and global supply chain through China. That's why the heavy emphasis on physical infrastructure that is now being replicated in digital infrastructure.

Anytime that I read an initiative that is full of woke ideology, I just don't understand the point. The rest of the world wants food to eat and low energy cost and improvement in livelihood. They are not looking for promises based on vague stuff like
"strong regulatory, social, environmental, transparency and accountability standards."

A lot of the projects under BRI don't make sense stand alone. They only sort of work due to China's low cost of building things. And more importantly, it's done to provide more local market for Chinese products and for accessing natural resources. Building other countries' infrastructure doesn't make sense without your own industrial policy.

The BRI is to benefit all especially in the under and developing countries to provide much needed infrastuctures, roads, ports, bridges, tunnels, trains, ships etc to facilitate transport of produces, goods, and enhance peoples' livelihood. Deisgned to be benefitial to all. West is just sour grapes and purple with envy on China's achievements... so the best, especially the ringleader you know who, is to demonise China, to place sanctions and all other dirty tricks ...human rights, democracy. Do they do what they preach? NO. They killed the native peoples, they use slaves...sell arms ...proxy wars. Bloody hypocrites; they all are!

article here talking about what I have been talking about which is the spread of the digital silk road
Please, Log in or Register to view URLs content!
it's especially prominent in the middle east, where despite America's best efforts, Huawei telecommunication and security gears are being deployed everywhere. Huawei cloud infrastructure is quite prominent too.

If MENA countries can't get trained by Western countries on AI and the modern digital economy, then they are obviously going to look to China. Again, big visit to the region by Xi in December.

China's relationship with Mexico is getting pretty good these days. A lot of Chinese companies open factories in Mexico to export into America

Lianyungang port is a great hub for BRI as both as rail hub and a port. It's close enough to the industrial zone in Jiangsu, Anhui and Shanghai and also close to Japan and Korea by shipping.

You don't hear a lot about Cuba, but their trades With China is growing

Good to see China and Indonesia resuming joint military exercises. Signs of warming ties all around. This is after meeting between Xi and Indonesian president

But the big one is the APEC meeting into Bangkok this week, where Xi is the star attraction without Biden around.
