The War in the Ukraine

Drive update. Mostly an aggregation of Twitter posts but still useful for that if you missed them. The one about bringing down the DJI drone is very interesting, as is the Russian TV news segment.

That’s interesting. He is saying the Soviets gave more information during the Nazi invasion than what the MOD is doing today. I don’t think this has been reported or mentioned anywhere yet in regards to Belgorod.

Just what exactly are the Russians planning. We haven’t really heard much of anything on reserves being moved or any troops movement from the Russian side doing literally anything. There doesn’t really seem to be any troops in Ukraine either.
So now more officials and even RT is calling out the defence ministry for their mistakes and accusing them of lying and hiding information about the war.
IMO it looks like Putin wants to use Shoigu and Gerasimov as scapegoats. hopefully this means he will finally drastically change his strategy in Ukraine because it seems like they want to blame it all on the minister instead of the president.

Still to this day you have some Russian netizens on the forums claiming that all is well and all these withdrawals are all just part of a big 5D master plan even though you had Kadyrov and now RT and the chairman of the defense committee telling us that the military is not performing well due to poor leadership.

According to Wall Street Journal (

) Russia is the main supplier of heavy vehicles like tanks, IFVs and AFVs to Ukraine, far exceeding the deliveries from the West:
“At Izyum, Ukraine gained more advanced Russian armor, such as T-90 tanks and BTR-82 infantry fighting vehicles with automatic cannon. The commander of Ukraine’s 92nd brigade, which played a major role on the Kharkiv front, was filmed this week taking a ride in a T-90, which wasn’t part of the Ukrainian arsenal before the war.”
They do point out that although the West is unable to keep up with the sheer number of Russian donations, their weapons are more advanced and accurate.

Propaganda, or factual?

Apparently, Putin is setting up Shoigu for scapegoating.

Yes, this is a myth. Joint exercises with Russia like Vostok and Qintongxia are not force on for exercises ala the Stride Exercises in Zhurihe. The news of Russian units getting obliterated in Vostok are a myth invented by military enthusiasts writing for Sina. In the actual exercise, Russian and Chinese troops were fighting on the same team against pre-arranged targets.
yes similar to the myths of China-Thailand exercises. I also dont think people understand how force-on-force exercises work. the results of those exercises are actually not correlated to the relative combat power of their participants, as the OPFOR units are required to play a certain role.

what a twist of events here. But one of the reasons why Russia can’t maintain a meaningful force in Ukraine.
i don't doubt for a single second the veracity of those claims. russia also has a terribly incompetent bureaucracy, and are known to always fumble the initial phase of everything. i imagine once they get the groove of this they will be churning out conscripts at a higher rate and better quality.

It is propaganda of course. The Russians thus far have not left vehicles behind if they were working properly. It is not surprising that the Ukrainians manage to get some of those broken down vehicles working again. If a tank bust its track, the tracks in the T-72 series and T-90 tanks are common enough that you can get a replacement track working. And Ukraine does have T-72 tanks. But large repairs will likely require cannibalizing vehicles, and the Russian vehicles they do get won't integrate with their existing command and control since the encrypted radios are not compatible. Back in WW2 the Germans also managed to capture a lot of T-34 tanks from the Soviets, but they never managed to keep them operational for a long time because of like I said lack of parts and infrastructure.

Germans didn't just use Russian tanks but they even had dedicated facilities for repairs and doing modifications.
Also the Russians have left a stupid amount of working vehicles behind in Ukraine so far. Like seriously...

I'm pessimistic about this assumption. Russia's bureaucracy and corruption are more serious than China. Moreover, Putin's speculative behavior shows the lack of unified understanding within Russia.
The Russians are fighting a war at the level of the 1960s, we must recognize the fact that Russia no longer has the military level of the Soviet era.
I don't know whether the "missing" of 1.5 million winter suits is true. If it is true, then I'm afraid the mobilization of Russia will not go smoothly
