Does anyone know how the SAM batteries (HQ-9, HQ-16, HQ-17, etc) are organized in PLA? Are they under the command of the army or the air force?

@KushigumoAkane can you help with the explanation?

HQ6, HQ9, HQ12/22 & S300/400 are under PLAAF as I understand it, HQ16 with PLAGF Group Army AD Brigades, HQ17(A) at CAB level. Someone posted an OrBat/Map with the PLAAF brigades on it a while ago on the SAM thread I think.

Does that mean HQ-17A is universal across the Light, medium, and heavy CAB?

I also forgot to ask about the SPAAG in the CAB level. I believe PGZ-09 is in heavy CAB, but what about the medium and light CAB?

I think the heavy CABs use the tracked HQ17 generally. Not sure if there are still many HQ7 around.

Medium CAB will I think use the new Type 08 SPAAG but not sure if it's in service yet.

I think there are 2 batteries (company size) of either PGZ-95 or PGZ-09 and then a battery of a SAM missile vehicles, like either the HQ17 or HQ17A.
I 'think' this was stated before that the ADA Battalion structure in the Combined arms BDE in the forum.

I also think it is the 'desire' for the PLA Ground Army for the HVY CAB to have the HQ17 and the Medium to have the HQ17A, but production levels and priorities for the PLA dictate which units will get what. I think that is why we see such a variety of systems within the PLA CABs for quite some time.

No if someone wants to volunteer and keep track of the units spotted with the new 'Gucci' vehicles and gear, by all means have at it.
Just my two cents

Possible orbat 161st Air Assault CAB. Source @pir3
16x Z-19/2 coy x8 + 6x Z-8G/Z-20/1 coy + 12 UAVs/1 coy
It seems strange.
According to information circulating in the country (unconfirmed), the standard air assault brigade should have at least 5 helicopter battalions.

Well, this brigade should have 3 transport helicopter battalions, 2 armed helicopter battalions and 1 reconnaissance helicopter battalion.
