There's no safety in kinetic violence, once the first shot flies out, out go all your perfect plans, especially if it is a hundreds planes pile up.

Because during that call Xi told Biden to call off the visit in as explicit, blunt (rude even), way as Xi has ever spoken to another foreign leader ever. You don’t speak to the President of the USA like that, even if it’s Biden, unless that’s your final warning.
That wasn’t some diplomatic breakthrough, it was a final chance to look the other guy in the eyes and give him your last warning so you can be as sure as can be that the message was received without any distortion or filtering. If that wasn’t enough to convince him to back off, then no amount of words will ever.
There isn't going to be a war. There will be a tense couple of months (well after pelosi leaves) when things aren't normal across the straits. And I would predict pla use this opportunity to normalize deeper intrusion into Taiwan. Dpp can thank pelosi for that.
At the end of the day, this (an unofficial visit by speaker) imo does not really cross a red line. It is a slippery slope, but the huge pushback from china will hopefully calm things down for a couple of years.

And the population will lose hope, so better to try and strike now rather than wait. So this time it is for real, US is 100% not invading while Pelosi is there (or near, if China chooses to send her away) right now, but this is in preparation for an illegal annexation of Taiwan by the US military later.
Probably the best thing to do is to keep a firm hand and stay high alert. Snap increase military spending to outspend USA and therefore force them to keep pace and strain their economy further. Don't fire the first shot at US territory, but if US fires the first shot by sending military at China, China should be sufficiently prepared to bury the invaders. Normalize Air Force constantly operating above Taiwan island, send freedom of navigation exercises at Guam and Okinawa to show PLA readiness if US tries something.
