I don't think he will be back for london olympic. But he might still race next year. I hope he has a successor by 2012. The current successor performs badly at the final race in the olympic.

Population is also a major issue. it's not just the money.

There is a good reason that the top two medal winning country also happens to be top 3 in population.

With that said though, Taiwan indeed doesn't spend enough on sports policies in general, and i'm not really just looking at Olympic medals. even for baseball. there's very little qualified fields avalible to the public here. it has gotten better in recent years. but no where near enough. and this comes from a guy that really plays and love the sport.

I am not sure accurate the correlation between sport performance and population. India has more than 1 billion population, but only won 1 gold medal. Australia has almost the same population as Taiwan but won much more medals in the olympics. Canada has also roughly the same GDP/capita with Australia and slightly larger population cannot beat Australian performance. Look at the current UK's gold medals. In theory russia should get more gold, but....

I think sports popularity, government endorsements and programs are all factors in the overall performance for a country's performance at the olympic.

Which country is going to openly admit, "we are leaving the league since we are cheating?" The writing on the wall is clear for all to see- that they made a bogus excuse to save face... no one gives up Little League and the money it generates as well as the positive effects on baseball in the nation due to disagreement over, "player pools... number of teams." Although I cannot say that they were in fact cheating since I don't have that evidence, I do point out that to any neutral observer, the circumstances appear very fishy, especially given then excuses/explanations that the sports officials in Taipei are giving.

But then again, since you did thorough research on wikipedia I must give you some credibility...

Anyways, I hope you two can lay this matter to rest and focus back on Liu Xiang. At the age of 25... do you guys think its possible for him to make a comeback in London? His tendon injury has been around for four years, but there is a possiblity that the flare up this time around may be career-ending.

The player pools are calculated very differently in Taiwan compared to all the other countries (you can check this up from the Little League website), you have your opinion about the circumstances. I'm sure the people at Little League didn't live under a rock whenever Chinese Taipei won a championship, if there were problems they could launch an investigation (which they didn't). People can still have their views but on the official side there were no braking of laws or anything wrong. By the way, Little league generates small amounts of money compared to other sports in Taiwan. If you didn't miss what I said before, I researched on Wikipedia, various news sites and the Little League website.

Back to the subject, he'll come back in London. He's not going to miss out that opportunity. He can get another gold then retire and become a coach or trainer or something. Thus extending his career.

i was a 400m hurdler myself
even i had terrible pressure on the track. it's not funny when everyone's watching u
u just get scared

i think he has pressure and injuries
my injuries are simply pulling muscles
but his is severe beyond wt i will ever face

Welcome to sinodefence forum, ravenshield936! Unless you have hard evidence to prove yourself to be a former 400m hurdler, please save the claim. I don't mean to say that you're fake, but to claim something we must have evidence.

Population may help in terms of talent pool but it's more important to have a concerted effort in a country's sport development. Besides I believe developed or advanced countries have better facilities, sports science development and better coaches. Also, a country may have a population of 1.3 billion people, but still they can only send in one team of 11 football players - same as a country of 1 million people. It may all just come down to the type of training and coaching of these players. If some talented players were missed out in the selection process, then good luck to the team.

China's Track and Field still need a lot of work to be done. So far, they have only got 1 bronze metal in that category. Btw, baseball and softball are no longer in the events of the next Olympics.

That would be so great for him and China, but at age 29 he'd be fortunate to even be able to win bronze in 2012.

Also those of kind of injuries can permanmently reduce flexiblity or strength in the area of the injury, so its doubtful that he will ever run 12.9 again. He is still a hero however and should serve to inspire the current generation of Chinese youth. Who knows, maybe we can see a Chinese high jumper or sprinter at the London games.

Being a hurdler doesn't mean you have to be on a national team or compete in international events.

I consider myself a basketball player and sprinter even though I never made it past the high school level. I was offered to play ball for a community college team though Choose to go to real college instead haha.
