It's a bit different for founding members and Spain's disputes are merely claims by Morocco, there's no threat of the use of force.
Spain is not a founding member of NATO. They only joined in 1982 after the dictatorship collapsed. Franco got into power with Hitler and Mussolini's help so Spain was treated as a global pariah while he was alive. This persisted for some time after he was dead while his clique was still in power. And those are no mere claims either. No less contentious than the Kurils or Diaoyu issue. In fact much worse. It includes actual cities not mostly uninhabited rocks in the ocean.

Controlling other countries foreign policy through their territorial disputes is Russia's strategy with Georgia. It works. NATO countries wouldn't mind giving Japan a security guarantee. It would be much harder to convince them to actually enter an armed conflict with China
It works because no one in their right mind would consider adding Georgia to NATO in those conditions enhances their security.

Note how his books rarely have citations and use weird units or low resolution data to try and prove a point.

What is China's future or possible counter moves if and when Japan somehow manages to be accepted by NATO? Should China let the membership unfold knowing what possible dangers it entails for China especially when it's clearly being used by both Japan and U.S. + Europe to meddle in the Taiwan issue. We can harangue and argue about NATO operating out of it's geographical sphere but we all know that double standards isn't lost on these Anglo-Saxon dominated countries. This is almost a redux of the 8 alliances VS China during the Qing Dynasty but only this time China has nukes and is building additional ones.

If on the one hand China reacts by upping it's military budget countries on her periphery would use that as further proof of China's Hegemonic desires in the region if not globally. But if China does not improve her military budget it's almost sending a quite signal to the western world that it's being acquesiced by their strategy and bullying which would emboldened the crazies even more. Either way, China is clearly being boxed in politically so that it would run out of diplomatic options/leverage so that it will inevitably be pushed into using the use of military force FIRST which would finally justify US led forces like NATO to wage war against China. Ultimately, the 800 pound gorilla for the US and it's European lackeys is the subjugation and defeat of China. Once defeated China's political system will be replaced, and the predictable chaotic consequences ensure China will never rise to prominence ever again to threaten western led global order.

If japan is foolish enough to join nato, it would have condemmed itself to self containment, the moment japan joins nato, then russia will heavilly militarizes sakhalin island perhaps even installing long range missiles or even nuclear weapons, thus it will face two-front war, it won't be able to concentrate facing China
I think even kishida realized this, he is just bluffing

@bajingan then bye bye Kuril Island and also cheap gas and oil from Siberia, I think Kishida is telegraphing its message to China, try to act tough BUT wait until Russia respond, Japanese national psychic has this fear of Russia, I don't know why BUT they have this fear greater than the US.

An Island country restrained by limited resources and depends heavily on importing of essential resources from other nations around it, while it's own biggest advantages are either being surpassed by a superpower next door or slowly diminishing due to inflation and low birth rate plus heavy burden from social wellfare, along with a awful historical relation with said superpower, somehow the leader of this island country believes in:
1) The country that nuked us twices and literally ruled us for decades will help us
2) I should start making strong rhetoric toward the superpower next door especially in topics involving it's domestic affairs
3) Even tho we engaged in literal NAZISM, we refuse to apologize and insists on re-establishing our imperial army like in the old days
4) Lets not only pissing one but two of the five nation on earth that has the greatest influence and miliitary/nuclear power

Should we question the sanity of Japanese politicans now ? o_O

The China-Singapore joint naval exercise is mainly of the kind like passage (communication) exercise and search & rescue operation, just about the lowest form of joint naval exercise.

Now take a look at Singapore's export by country. In 2020, China imported more from Singapore than US did. And Singapore's export to China+HK+Macau was more than US, Japan, S Korea, Australia, UK and EU combined.

Furthermore, Singapore also hosts US warships and Australian Surveillance/submarine chaser P-8, both a threat to China's security. Our forum members will be a bit more understanding if Singapore treats China a bit more fairly.
Didn't even realize sg export to China that much. In my mind sg has very little manufacturing industry, it's economy dominated by financial services and commercial. But tp when I checked wat they export to China, surprised me.

In 2020, Singapore exported $42.9B to China. The main products that Singapore exported to China are Integrated Circuits ($10.6B), Ethylene Polymers ($2.25B), and Machinery Having Individual Functions ($1.86B). During the last 25 years the exports of Singapore to China have increased at an annualized rate of 11.1%, from $3.11B in 1995 to $42.9B in 2020.

It's worse than that. Japan would also face the prospect of the Chinese military deployments on Sakhalin Island and also from the Russian coastline across the Sea of Japan.

At the moment, China would struggle to reach Japanese military bases in Eastern Japan.
But fighter jets and SRBMs can reach these areas, if they are launched from Russian territory.
