Who is capable of maneouvering a transport plane to point its nose at a fast moving target and keep it pointed at the target long enough to get a lock and press the launch button? Even with helmet mounted sight the target still has to be in the 60 degree cone in front of the plane.

It may not be targeting a fast moving target but another MPA or helicopter.

Anyway, more pics.

With a 5th gen SRAAM you can pretty much shoot whatever is in range and tracked by your radar.
Except the radar has to point at the target to see it. Well, except for AESA, but it still need the target to be inside a cone in front of the radar.

It may not be targeting a fast moving target but another MPA or helicopter.
Submarine protection? Looking for enemy submarines while shooting at things that will threat one's own submarines?

Those fancy new infra red SRAAMs like the Python 5 could do it, but it seems like a great waste to put something like that on a mere MPA when first priority should be frontline fighters.
