Anybody here with software development background? I want to ask what tools, libraries and programming languages should I learn as a foundation in making a non-web desktop software from start to finish, because from all the articles I read I'm confused as to where to start. I have some knowledge on Java, C# and C++, still have no idea how to make an executable lol
It depends on which kind of application you are developing. If it is not performance sensitive and your target platform is Microsoft Windows I think you should use C#. If it is performance sensitive and you want to port it to Linux at some point then probably C++ with Qt would be better.

If you are much more experienced in web development and your application isn't performance sensitive, then you could try one of the frameworks to write desktop web apps.

So I have an lithuanian exchange student with which I am normally friendly with, but what bothers me is that he calls himself north european(?!) and considers slavs, especially russians to be Untermenschen.
Additionally he lowkey considers himself arian and finds wehrmacht-esque reinactments in lithuania sexy?

I get that they dont like Russia/SU over there, but at the same time he is basically asslicking america.
Like "iPhone so good because made in USA", I politely reminded him that his very phone and everything he owns in general is not made in usa but China, but then he comes with Winnie the Pooh, Bing Chilling, Laoganma, 6/4 meme bullshittery?
Also he's not a fan of non whites apparently, so I dunno.

Is there a kind way to say that lithuania is more of a shithole than lets say egypt?

How do I politely remind him that he can f his self with his ignorance and racism? And how do I make him clear that supporting Wehrmacht (looks) is not a good thing? And that he can be happy that a certain moustache guy from austria didnt win the last world war, otherwise, after the east slavs were disposed of, his kin would have been gassed.

And I tried to convince with said facts but didnt achieve anything.

He's a Lithuanian, so you can disregard his opinion lol. No helping they Baltic's heavy anti-Russian and pro-West indoctrination, their own government sold out their trade with China over some few hundred millions dollars, like wth.

True, I am not one of those "I can fix him" people but it saddens me the most that he thinks so primitively with respect to geopolitical matters. Because apart from that issue he seems to be a kind soul.

Alas, he and his people have more trust in daddy america than in their fellow european kin, like what is the EU even for when you ask america in any matter for allowance anyway?

I am genuinely more shocked that so many nations havent had proper education on Holocaust and WWII in general, I mean Germany tried quite alot and we still have alot of deniers or even open support for Holocaust and well the baltics, the ukraine openly support Nazism and wished that a certain square mustache man would have won. Like seriously how can they even consider themselves sympathetic to hitlers regime?

And Japan to this day does fundamental denial of any wrongdoing of theirs.
Even the jews are using Gestapo/SA methods of minority control in occupied falastin.
Either they forgot what happened back in the days or genuinely enjoyed it, i dunno...

Each country has a different interpretation or revision on their history to suit their political and societal needs, in order to rally people under one nation or ideology. It will be hard to make people nationalistic if they portray themselves as perpetrators or wrongdoers in history, and even those that knows the truth of their history will have different reaction or coping mechanism to it.

From observation, the positions of those that confronted the truth are to deny, downplay, forget, delude or worse, they relish in those wrongdoings. Only a few make amends with those truth, and strive to be better people, this problem will continue as we divide ourselves through national, ethnic and other identities. The human civilization as a whole haven't developed that much in the field of humanities and society.

Any material science engineers here? How viable is Maraging steel for armor?
I know the soviets built penetrators for APFSDS out of this stuff.

Sandwiched as part of the composite in front hull and turret front sides, maybe even structual component, so side hull armor as well?

What about body armor? Density is only slightly higher than RHA and we Germans use Steelplates in Bodyarmor anyway.

I found something.

TL;DR

Study from 2017 Germany

Maraging Steel and other Ultra High hardness steels are superior to RHA [ Rolles homogenous armor] in terms of protective value, maraging steel being superior to quenched/tempered steels, further more, maraging steel does not lose much ductility unlike traditional HHA [High hardness armor] steels, but production of thick plates of UHA [ Ultra hardness armor] steels is not possible/unknown in the West.
I dont know if China has similiar studies or is already able to produce maraging steel plates of high thickness for tank armor.

Abstract of the Study

"The present contribution aims to assess the properties of ultra-high-hardness (UHA) armor steels. Characteristic of those steels are yield and tensile strengths reaching 1.6 and 2.0 GPa, respectively, and a hardness of around 600 Brinell or above. Accordingly, they are promising candidates for protective solutions. However, UHA steels are relatively new products and not yet frequently applied. Their potential for armor protection is not fully explored today and has to be investigated further. Ballistic testing of the protective properties of UHA steels is however limited by the commercially available material thicknesses. In the context of present applications, the available sheet thickness for UHA steel is typically below 15 mm, thus ballistic tests for some threat levels are possible only under overmatch conditions where failure mechanisms under shear and low confinement play strong roles. In order to be able to analyze the deep penetration into UHA materials – whether thick plates are today producible or not – we chose an approach based on material characterization and numerical simulation. Two different UHA steels were compared against a reference material from the high-hardness-armor (HHA) steel class. One of the UHA steels was a quenched and tempered steel, while the other was a maraging steel. Based on material testing, parameters for a non-linear equation of state, the Johnson-Cook plasticity model, as well as failure criteria for strain accumulation and wave induced spall rupture were derived and applied in hydrocode simulations of the perforation of thick steel plates by projectiles. From this numerical analysis, a consistent picture emerged. According to the simulations, the protective properties of the UHA steels are increased for thick targets compared to HHA, which was not directly inferable from ballistic tests."

@Coalescence not sure if you already started but in addition to the C# suggestion, U might also be interested in .NET
Maui a microsoft supported cross platform GUI framework. I personally haven't used it yet but looking at the docs it really sounds like the old Xamarin forms and windows presentation foundation of like 5 years ago.

How does aircraft carrier engine/propulsions work, and how difficult would it be to disable them using weapons like torpedoes?
