#Monkey is fatal in ~1 in 10 cases
3) “We do have a level of concern that this is very different than what we typically think of from monkeypox. And I think we have some concern that there could be spread outside the U.K associated with this,” Jennifer McQuiston, a senior CDC official, told STAT in an interview.
7) to be clear, while #monkeypox fatality is 1 in 10 approximately in Africa (up to 15%), it’s likely much lower in Europe with better healthcare system.
5) While one of the cases had recently traveled to Nigeria, where monkeypox is endemic, the others appear to have contracted the virus in the U.K. None of the people infected domestically has any known connections with the traveler.
10) Now we don’t know if monkeypox transmission is the same as smallpox. But smallpox had a very high household attack rate. And there is talk of “droplets” again which we know from COVID took 2 years for many to acknowledge was airborne.
13) So is #monkeypox airborne damnit or not? Well… not 100% sure yet, but maybe… highly possible. One study shows it may be aerosol stable for 90 hours and potentially still infective during that time. That’s bad.
23) there are now 7 countries with confirmed #monkeypox cases outside of Africa. Expect this to grow soon even more. The long incubation time of 12 and sometimes 21 days will make case identification slower.
Monkey Pox is on the raise globally. Either it fizzles out or i guess we finally get the “great reset.”
Not confirmed if it airborne or not but one study says it could be aerosol stable up to 90 hours and it has a 1-15% mortality rate depending on strain, and a 7-21 day incubation period.
