I am not saying Red Flag is going to fail because it sounds Communist or something, but Red Flag has another and more obvious connotation and use in the English language. Think about it.

Yes, and it's not just the politics. So you got a parking ticket and then someone uploaded a video of that with the title "Isn't that already a red flag?".

Anyway, if you have a very good product, you can get away with any name. I mean people will still buy.

Acura, Lexus, Infinity, Genesis and even Nio were independently developed luxury marques from Asia, all of which created a new name.

Ideally Hongqi should be called something like "Premier" or "Crimson" or "Dynasty" and then simply have the Chinese lettering, not the ridiculous pin ying.

Dynasty sounds much better if it's hasn't already been registered.

It'll be fine once people realize you pronounce "Hongqi" like "Hongchi" and not like a racial slur for a white person.

That reminds me of a hilarious criticism I saw of the name of the "BYD Han" as if it's named after the racial majority of China. "Imagine if we released a car called the Ford Caucasian!"

Won't be the first time a vehicle is named after an ethnic minority. Familiar what the Nissan Qashqai is?
