"China Must Mediate Ukraine-Russia War: EU's Borrell"

"China should mediate future peace talks between Russia and Ukraine as Western powers cannot fulfil the role,
the European Union's foreign policy chief Josep Borrell said."

""There is no alternative... It must be China, I am sure of that," Borrell said in an interview with Spanish daily El Mundo
published on Friday evening.

"Diplomacy cannot only be European or American. Chinese diplomacy has a role to play here," he added.
"We have not asked for it and neither have they (China), but since it has to be a power and neither the US nor Europe
can be (mediators), China could be."

Ukraine may trust that China has enough leverage with Russia to insure that Russia abides by any agreement.

EU is just setting a trap for China. The issue is not between Ukraine and Russia. It is between US/NATO and Russia. There is no need for a mediator, nor anybody capable to mediate. EU is not asking for a mediator but a human shield for NATO aggression.

China will stay out of it until NATO acknowledge the Russian security concern. The Chinese representative to EU has made that clear.

China is probably informed what Russia's plans are for Ukraine. The EU probably already know what Russia wants to do with Ukraine.

If China steps or mediate the west will blame China for appeasing Russia, and will probably use it sanction China a couple of years later.

also they should pump billions into Russia to stabilise the Russian economy, Russian wont forget the favour even after 100 years

Russia has big balls man, they have the entire NATO, UK and US on the back foot

International law wise, they are right. Providing even just logistical support from your bases makes you a party to the war. So the countries that allow Ukrainian aircraft to use their bases have already joined the war on the Ukrainian side before getting attacked by Russia. This also makes the NATO article 5 non-applicable.

The problem is the US would have a very hard time explaining this to its own populace and others. People think any conflict that has a NATO member in must pull all the others in too. If the US joins the war after such an incident, it will be risking its own existence. If it doesn't (which it shouldn't according to even NATO treaty itself) it will lose a lot of its credibility in an unjustified way.

I can see the US having a very serious conversation with the Baltics, Romania, and Poland right now if the allegations are real. The US is a lot of things but it isn't a country that would allow Eastern European NATO members to skirt around WW3 hiding behind its might.

Having a "Z" painted does not necessarily mean related to Russian military. Such as this one in front of Canadian Embassy in Beijing. Certainly Russia is not using an Audi to occupy Canadian Embassy.
