Yeah although this might leave Kiev unattended.

The following is MiG-29 combat range flying from three possible bases. 2 of Which are in NATO or neutral Moldova.

View attachment 84569

As seen compared to Lubin or Marculesti. Uzhorod appears to be handicapping the range.
I just saw those as being too close to Belarus and Crimea. I couldn’t find a definitive combat radius for MiG-29.
Also, at this point, I’m seeing them more as interdiction aircraft than as air-defense.

"China Must Mediate Ukraine-Russia War: EU's Borrell"

"China should mediate future peace talks between Russia and Ukraine as Western powers cannot fulfil the role,
the European Union's foreign policy chief Josep Borrell said."

""There is no alternative... It must be China, I am sure of that," Borrell said in an interview with Spanish daily El Mundo
published on Friday evening.

"Diplomacy cannot only be European or American. Chinese diplomacy has a role to play here," he added.
"We have not asked for it and neither have they (China), but since it has to be a power and neither the US nor Europe
can be (mediators), China could be."

Ukraine may trust that China has enough leverage with Russia to insure that Russia abides by any agreement.

Has Russia said anything about their response if Ukrainian air force stage in foreign airbase? It would be a major escalation?

This is why they shouldn't half ass this war, now everyone thinks they're paper tiger....

Yes a major escalation especially if they fly from NATO territory. But you know.. people like discussion and one of the topic is what if Ukrainian aircraft operates out from NATO controlled base.

and above map shows the handicap of MiG-29's in terms of range. I also deal with performance here :

So far the US has expressed clearly they don't want to have direct clash with the Russian forces, so.... I give it a very low probability of happening, not impossible but say 10% chance maybe....

ouch.. despite the hype.

I guess refurbishing extra F-16 from AMARC will still not cut it.
The only way to get Polish MiGs to Ukraine soon enough to matter would be to do it now. Maybe the US fills the gaps with their own aircraft (flown by the USAF; the US already has fighters in Poland) and then they figure it out logistics of replacement later. There are several options. Refurbs, new builds, etc. The USAF also uses the Block 52 that the Poles use.

It won't happen cause as the article stated, US would be giving them USAF operated F-16 which has sensitive settings and tech. I think someone is the decision-making chain will let the dumb politicians know that they will be handing them very sensitive tech away. There's a reason weapons have down-graded exported versions, and Poland is not even a 5-eye Anglo ally.

I think they know it won't work but couldn't say that right off the bat so they responded by saying we're considering it. In the end they are just roping the Ukrainian along again.

And there's the issue of transfering them to Ukraine. And even then, these will be high value targets that the Russians won't have problems destroying.
