This being from Sky notwithstanding, that was pretty intense what these journos went through -

Though it begs the question why they would travel anywhere without an escort this time around when the Ukrainian Army seemed happy to tag along in other instances -

It looks like the reporters were travelling within Kiev, far away from the frontline. So I'd be surpised if the Ukrainians would offer an escort given the manpower shortages they have. They probably didn't think they needed one.

LOL at the "Russian saboteurs" again. I'm surprised why no one at sky questioned why Russians would infiltrate Kiev to set up a checkpoint in the middle of nowhere.

More likely the soldiers at checkpoint they drove towards saw people with black body armour and helmets and started firing. The kit they are wearing is totally inappropriate for the situation it should be bright blue and much more obvious from a distance. If its just manned by nervous civilians with guns they may not know.

One of the latest maps

However I still dont know why the Russian column is waiting outside Kiev

They tried to break out from Bucha today but never managed to get onto the main road

could the ATGM + MANPADS be kicking in as 3 Russian fighter jets are reported shot down

What is hard to understand mate? East Ukraine is Russian. Russia does not want to flatten cities where Russians live. Putin demands are very transparent. If Russia wants it can use its airforce + missile forces and thousands of tanks/howitzers and finish the work but then what will be left?

They are just trying to force government to give up and meanwhile trying to destroy Ukraine forces which are out at open. The forces in the cities are under siege and using civilians as shields.

Possible chain of payment from my understanding.

First off, SWIFT is a transaction messaging system, not a trade system. It sends a message (like an email) from one account to another. The sending account will deduce amount X, and receiving account increase by X. What the receiver does to the sender next is another story, can be done in other forms and through another channel, not necessarily via SWIFT. CIPS can be that alternative, or physical gold.

SWIFT has not cut some Russian banks off because EU want to buy Russian oil. These Russian banks receive EURO through SWIFT. They can transfer the oil EURO to a Chinese bank connected to SWIFT. The same Chinese bank in term can transfer equivalent amount of RMB to the Russian banks via CIPS according to the exchange rate of Rubel and RMB. Russia can use RMB to buy whatever she want from China or any country that accept RMB via CIPS.

The same thing can be done using the Russian SPFS system as well.

Russia can trade with any country who has access to both SWIFT and CIPS/SPFS.

It is troublesome at the beginning, but once banks have opened their accounts in CIPS or SPFS, everything will be back to normal, as easy as using SWIFT, in terms of doing financial transactions.

Cutting off SWIFT is just a short term annoyance. The long term effect is that both dollar and Euro will loose big chunks of their portions as world reserve currencies. The only beneficiary is RMB.

The real action to hurt Russia is to block Russian exports and imports physical goods. But that is suicidal for the Europeans.

I think ONLY SWIFT transfer to Russian banks for Russian gas going to Europe is allowed and nothing else. As usual the rule of intl order only serves the western interest which is total bullshit. Many countries also have interest in purchasing commodities from Russia.

In any case as you indicated on your post, Are EURO transfer from Russian Bank to Chinese bank allowed ? Likely not.

Keep it simple and just use CIPS/SPFS.

Still, mighty good thing they had protection on. Like the reporter said they were incredibly lucky all of them got out alive and pretty much unscathed. Any of those bullets that had hit their body armour would've killed them if they'd only worn civvies instead.

Incidentally Stuart Ramsay was also the one on the ground covering the Kabul airport evacuations -
