It makes no sense because the Su-57 has TVC. And it is not like the F-22 TVC which can just point up and down in a single axis.

Three ways to make sense of it, IMO.

1. This is just nonsense someone made up when a reporter asked why the Su-57 didn't have the new, stealthy nozzle. It happens.

2. The Russians may have a 3d TVC version of this. If true, very cool, and I'd love to see it.

3. The Russians have decided stealth is more important than TVC. That seems to run contrary to their aircraft design philosophy, but it's possible. I could see a scenario where the combat testing in Syria showed TVC wasn't really useful.

To know which is true, we will have to wait and see.

I was rather surprised with the article and from the AvNerd POV, I'm hoping it is #2.

F22 doesn’t need TVC for Yaw that’s what the rudders do. TVC isn’t meant to replace the conventional controls it’s an augmentation to them. On F22 the TVC was added for additional pitch but also to reduce the IR signature.

AFAIK the F-22 TVC can only control pitch and the Su-57's can control pitch and yaw.
yeah, but the Russian TVC is just a regular 2D TVC with round exhaust and slightly tilted at 14 (???) degrees, so the a ability of pitch control is close to none...

Well the time to edit has passed so.. i guess i'll make another and maybe let Mod review.

So to pitch the TVC will be pointed out in this manner

It's basically the TVC equivalent of a v-tail. Single axis surface/nozzle movement in two planes controlling both pitch & yaw axes by mixing appropriately.
