No surprise. But 9000kg is achievable when the base engine is already at 8300kg. I think Klimov can provide that, if not a Chinese substitute can. You need to work out maintaining reliability issues. At 9000kg, you're close to thrust to weight unity with the JF-17 on a standard AA combat load (four AAMs, two BVR, two short range with full internal fuel only).

according to the artcile, the turn rate is still slightly inferior to F-16,this is due to the engine.
what AVIC really needed is GE F-414 engine,lighter and more powerful than RD-93.

Its slightly inferior to the F-16A, which is what Pakistan has, but this plane has a better turn rate than the F-16C. So overall, the JF-17's turn rate is not bad for now, though I don't think it can match the F-16C's straight line performance. 9000kg of thrust still won't do that either, but it can make Pakistan happy because you can justify to your politicians that the JF-17 can now match the F-16A in turn rate. (Heck a lot of more modern planes have problems matching an F-16A's turn rate).

There is talk within PAF to further enhance the JF-17 airframe...according to pshamim on PakDef, possible changes/upgrades include: twin-tail configuration, enlarged wings, noses changes, engine with higher T/R and possible changes/upgrades in DSI. What kind of effects would such changes have on JF-17? Would it physically match with the JAS-39DK/NG airframes?

I saw this aerospace daily article posted by Huitong on the 18th. Didn't catch it until now. Anyhow, basically saying when JF-17 fully fulfills the top export customer's design requirement, it will begin development on the ground attack version, twin seater version, extend the lifetime of technology, use time difference to lower cost and risk, expand to fighter market in the 3rd world. This August, the new fighter came to review, experts from all of the country came to CAC to study. Seems like they were impressed.

As I mentionned in my blog, it looks like PLAAF is looking for the ground attack version.

Anyhow, basically saying when JF-17 fully fulfills the top export customer's design requirement, it will begin development on the ground attack version, twin seater version, extend the lifetime of technology, use time difference to lower cost and risk, expand to fighter market in the 3rd world. This August, the new fighter came to review, experts from all of the country came to CAC to study. Seems like they were impressed.

As I mentionned in my blog, it looks like PLAAF is looking for the ground attack version.

So the JF-17's design is still under development...so is there a chance we'll see more airframe changes in the future? A ground attack version would come in handy to PAF as well...perhaps extended range and payload, take up a Wild Weasel like role?

I don't know if this anything to do with it but it showed up recently on the internet. It doesn't look like a twin seater though. It's nice fanboy art though if that's all it is.

I think that's just talking about the initial design. I'm assuming that it's saying the design is ready now and is moving toward the ground attack version and twin-seater now. I think for PLAAF, JF-17 is looked at for the role Q-5 is serving. But we will see.

according to WMF, China is developing new 9300 kg. TF engine.first prototype will be unveil in 2010.
the engine intend to power the next generation of fighter (J-14?) and FC-1

Is that what they said? First prototype in 2010. If that's true, I'd bet J-XX will enter service with the engine at the same time.
