Why is Intel investing in Europe and not the US, if the US is so concerned about semiconductor nationalism? It seems the US paranoia is only directed against Asian companies, even if they are from supposed allies like South Korea. What this really is is a form of White technological nationalism. But Japan, South Korea and Taiwan refused to acknowledge this because that would imply the unthinkable -- that their natural allies are the Chinese and not the Americans.
@gadgetcool5 bro my take, tech wise compare to SK and TW Intel is lacking (still stuck at 10nm), that is why the US gov't under the behest of Intel DEMAND a FAB in the US ( TSMC FAB is beside the plan Intel FAB in Arizona), Investing in Europe they want the EU subsidies the same with the US. So the Winner in this tech war is Intel an American institution and a big lesson for us Asian, hard work will not guarantee your security and independence, standing up will. Even though it may endure hardship in the beginning to earn RESPECT you have to fight for it. And they had the power to do it, we had the knowledge and IP they don't and with the chips shortage let see who blink first and I'll bet you a certain person with the name of Anthony will...lol

Again I always point to @FairAndUnbiased previous post about an Asian Spring, the US will have to be careful, an alliance is there if both side shared a common agenda. But if its against its national interest especially if economic survival is at stakes then that alliances will self destruct. The US bereft of leadership will only hasten its decline, the Chinese after been subjected to sanction and adversarial policy never used such underhand tactic cause they know its self defeating.

I wonder if a country like INDIA can defeat China in semiconductor since they have access to ASML technology. This will make China's technology obsolete.

Zhang Zhongmou, the founder of TSMC, once said: Without TSMC's foundry, mainland China would not be able to produce a piece of high-end chips without the efforts of the whole country. The Dutch president once said that even if the lithography machine drawings were given to China, the Chinese would not be able to create top-level lithography machines.

Absolutely ... even Sri Lanka + ASML would beat China in no time .. the problem is Sri Lanka and many other countries simply don't want to do that , because feel pity of China ;)

3. Relatively close to EU, same time zone as EU, and even speaks French, perfect for foreign investment from France and Belgium.

ASML should worry more about their future sales.

@Tyler bro I may disagree, DUVL yes but not EUVL, multitude of FAB being established and most of them are EUVL equip. So the transition had been made with TSMC and Samsung being roped in they had no choice due to ASML monopoly. To break that a Chinese EUVL is needed but its to late as I said both company had been compromise.

TSMC and Samsung themselves will be losing sales to China. their investment in ASML euv machines will not be recouped. We will soon see China taking over in the whole chip making process, including machines and semiconductor making.

Absolutely ..... DUV first in a short time then EUV

Very much the same trend as CNC, Robot, Supercomputer, GPS, Space station, Satellites, rockets, solar panel, electric cars, etc, etc

@Tyler bro with both company (TSMC & Samsung) joining the US in a semi alliance and if the monopoly is maintain, China will depend on them until its EUVL is ready or SMIC is able to produced a 7nm domestic line, that is all to it, they were lock into the Alliances due to American holding a monopoly. With RCEP SK will able to sell its product inside China, with SMEE/CETC EUVL available they will break ranks and procure it to produce chip inside China. That is what China can give you an alternative and it is happening not only in Semiconductors but in geopolitics as well.

As reunification is happening over the next few years, Samsung will be forced to switch sides sooner, as they worry about losing more market share to Chinese fabs. We are talking China taking over in the whole chip making process, including machines and semiconductor making. This is going to be a profound change in the industry and a shock to the racists.
