That's a very good point. I haven't thought about the disinfection angle. Modern warship cabins are cramped, indoor spaces which are good habitat for bacteria and mold.
And COVID 19...

Remember there have been brouts of COVID at many warships including one American carrier, one british carrier and this very week ten cases in one Spanish AOR

In Japan drying laundry under the sun is still done at most all homes till this day.
Not only the heat dries but the ultra-violet rays really works against unwanted organisms.
The only set back is discoloration of cloth but these days dyes are made to take those kind of beatings.

What about the XF-9I engine? Why aren't they pushing for it solo? I thought it showed very promising results.

I'm convinced that Japan has found the project to be a bit costly and wants to generate some profit by selling it to foreign countries. Rolce Royce is likely welcomed solely to facilitate such a trade. The potential customers are very few. India is one.

For Japan considering to export the system, it is much wiser to team up with an accepted international player. Look at P-1, as a stand alone marine patrol plane, I will say it is better than the P-8 since the P-8 has problems flying low and slow so they have to hook up with Poseidon, an unmanned drone to do the heavy work, meaning you need a more costly system to make it work where as P-1 can do it solo but most nations are going for the P-8 considering it as a safer bet.
IHI is going to share it's engine technology to Rolls Royce to further develop the engine for their Tempest fighters which will utilize various parts from the IHI F9-1 engine once in production.

Japan’s space agency JAXA

that is has successfully demonstrated the operation of a “rotary detonation engine” in space, a world’s first.

Such an engine uses a series of controlled explosions that travel around a circular channel at its base. The result is a massive amount of thrust coming from a much smaller engine using significantly less fuel — a potential game changer for deep space exploration, according to JAXA.
