Any reason why China doesn't have any athletes in the weightlifting events today? I'm guessing the lower weight category is because it's new and China didn't have anyone to qualify into it, but the heavier one China dominates it right?

The Taipei athelete is dominant, holds world record for snatch, Cnj and total.

China can only send 8 athletes so they just skipped this for more ideal weight classes

Yeah, basically due to the quota, China is in 49kg, 55kg, 87kg, 87kg+ in the womens, and 61kg, 67kg, 73kg, 81kg for the mens. Those were determined to be the classes in which China is most dominant.

Sharpshooters Yang Haoran and Yang Qian (the lady who won China's first gold) are called the Yang Yang team; that's just adorable! Anyway, they just beat the US in the gold medal match for 10 meter mixed air rifle.

Read about yang haoran on weibo. Apparently he was labelled a talented prodigy from young age. Won everything there is except for Olympics title. Unfortunately bombed out in Rio during qualifications. Got severe criticism on social media. So he quit weibo. So far he is only Olympic gold medallist with no weibo account. Glad he finally got his gold now. Plus the bronze in individual event

Exactly. There's no such thing as a certain win. I also wouldn't be so quick to count China out in the swimming and track and field events.

If there ever was such a thing as a certain win. We might as well stop watching. And the "lesser able" might as well not turn up. This is why we love watching competitive sports, becausecit the element of uncertainty.

USA: Nope, we need more swimming medals, despite already having 37 for some reason. Weightlifting should be reduced by 1 event too. Also we should limit max number of weightlifting athletes to 8 per country (even though we send 50 to swimming)

The US is a legal cheat at the olympics, basically like how lobbying is legal corruption
