Or you know, just import them like the Americans do by giving medial hopefuls from poorer countries citizenship.

China has imported plenty of Brazilian soccer players but they still blow big chunks because they've picked up bad habits from Chinese players. There is no hope unless the next time they perform badly, Xi starts volunteering them as coal mine workers for North Korea as a token of friendship with Kim Jong Un.

Anyone knows why there is such an extreme gender imbalance in the Chinese Olympic team?

It's sexual selection. Chinese men need to provide housing and a vehicle in order to reproduce, so the selection pressure is in favor of nerds and against jocks. For women, it's the exact opposite. Chinese women who are highly educated often have trouble finding a husband, so they tend to marry much later in life.

It's either that, or Chinese men just suck at team sports.

As Chairman Mao has been saying, women hold up half the heaven.

I think when it comes to gender equality, China is among the top , if not the top in the world.
Till today, many Westerners are still puzzled why Chinese women do not change their names to husband's surname after marriage.

The last name thing didn't came from Mao or the Communists. From ancient times until now, Chinese women never changed their surnames to that of their husbands.

Sure, everyone knows it is not from Mao when it comes to last name. But the communist movement did bring drastic change in gender equality to China. And it is still a norm in liberal west for women to change their names after marriage (perhaps less so in recent years).

I'm not disputing that. Now that I think about it, I thought you were inferring that the last name thing came from Mao. In hindsight, I jumped the gun too quickly. My bad.

China needs to start a serious recruitment campaign for talented athletes worldwide. Cannot rely on han genetics forever when these western countries are all "represented" by so many african descents.

even Greece gets to show up to the next olympics with Giannis Antemtekunpo
