YMTC's own supply chain audit, for example, found that many vital processes were not immediately replaceable with domestic vendors: high-end lenses, precision bearings, quality vacuum chambers, and motors, radio frequency components and programmable chips all still come from foreign manufacturers in the U.S., Japan and Europe, people briefed on the matter told Nikkei.

In parallel to its localization efforts, YMTC keeps building production lines that use American equipment and parts to facilitate its expansion.

@Kaine bro YMTC chip production is based on 19nm processes, so compare with its contemporary it is behind tech wise. But it had develop a XTRACKING tech IP which for a non technical guy like me looks like a 3D stacking. With the introduction of SMEE 28NM DUVL and its relevant equipment this year, it can duly replaced those American equipment and what more next year when the 14nm domestic equipment will be available, tech wise they can able to FAB their chip at 14nm, 12nm or even at 7nm processes.

YMTC has since last year built a Parallel Localised Production Line for its Chips.
Alot of the equipment from local vendors are fairly new and require testing and verification so it takes time naturally to get it up to speed.
So YMTC of course are still using their American Equipment to do the production currently.
But just in case anything happens they can easily switch over to the local production line.

What happened to SMIC is also something we can study if ever YMTC gets sanctioned.
SMIC was supposedly sanctioned but today it continues to produce its ICs and is in fact expanding production at a massive scale and making huge profits.
Even Fujian Jinhua which was sanctioned years ago over IP Issues is still thriving and is producing its products at its FAB and selling them.

Fujian Jinhua is alive and healthy and producing its products but it is keeping a low profile so as not to shock the Americans.
Unfortunately there are no Media articles currently about it, but your best bet would be to visit some Chinese Tech WebSites or Forums where there is no shortage of news in Chinese about them.

@WTAN Sir regarding the reports about YMTC 128 layers low yields is due to this? Its not about the Tech (128 layers and eventually the 192) its all about the production process using localized production line?
