It's all about electioneering I.e. vying for maintaining political power and relevance for Trudeau and his Liberals because the atmosphere in Canada is as anti-China as one can get although not quite as visceral or violent in comparison to America.Canada has yet another chance to get out of this Meng Wanzhou mess that it created for itself based on the new evidence. If it still wants to, that is. But one gets the feeling that Canada has already been too tightly roped in to the American anti-China bandwagon to get off now. Had it acted earlier, it could have several chances. It could refuse the US extradition request right at the beginning, as some of US allies had done. Trudeau could also have intervened to free Meng before Trump left the office. Unlike Australia, Canada actually had a relatively trouble-free relationship before the Meng incident. Now it just had to dig in and double down - it has recently taken the lead to call on UN Human Right chief to immediately investigate the so-called Xinjiang forced labor allegation.
The thing says they polled 17 democracies so it's not even worth opening the link. That's like saying 17 guys from the rival team hate you. Good! That means you're a/the star player of your team.Being disliked means you stand for something. It means that you are relevant.
Mexican politics has a strong anti-American bent and considering that the request made (if such a request was made to Mexico by the U.S.) during Trump Presidency was going to be politically nill from being agreed to by the current Mexican president and government in light of the very anti-Mexico rants made by then candidate Trump and even after becoming the U.S. President. Canada on the other hand was already reeling from the trade embargo/tariff that Trump initiated against Trudeau's Canada which a lot of Canadian jobs actually depend on the cross border trade with the U.S. it's simply next to impossible for the P.M. to resist the American pressure. Canada is a middling country, with a so so military power, on it's own without the U.S. support Canada wouldn't be anywhere frankly speaking. They simply can't afford to bite and spite the very hands that feed them in every literal sense. That's just an excuse for incompetence.
Donald Rumsfeld, the guy who hated China because his best buddie died getting shot down flying illegally over China as a US spy, has died.
When did that happen? (Friend of his getting shot down in China for spying.)Donald Rumsfeld, the guy who hated China because his best buddie died getting shot down flying illegally over China as a US spy, has died.
