True, but a India sized Vietnam wouldn’t rely on external assistance in times of conflict. Even at its worst it won’t be a drag on your alliance. Can’t say the same for a certain super power that sinks it’s subs by leaving the hatch open.

The "open hatch" thing was so funny it made me laugh. I didn't know about it, but it did happen:

My summary: India's nuclear-powered submarine, the INS Arihant, nearly sank in 2017 because of an open hatch. The country spent $3 billion on the sub; I can imagine all the Jai Hind types thumping their chests about it. But apparently they forgot to tell the crew that all the hatches must be closed before the submarine dives. Pumping out the seawater and replacing the pipes corroded by the water took ten months.

I wonder if all the money that Modi spent on the submarine affected his response to COVID-19?

Another thought: can a crew that neglects something as obvious as closing the hatches before a dive be trusted to run a nuclear submarine?

It is obviously the fault of the Russian engineers to design something with such poor ergonomics. If it is properly automated the sub should warn the sailors to keep all hatches closed before diving. Even flight attendants remind passengers to buckle up before taking flight. How hard can that be?

This article’s author is working extra hard to not understand the most basic concept of something known as consumer electronics and global supply chain… whereby a thing can be made somewhere, then shipped and bought by anyone locally to do the damn job…

Seems to me it is a type of reverse propaganda.

The claim that the Chinese caught this British politician cheating on his wife, by having an adulterous affair with a married woman, everyone will want to know the juicy details. This is Britain they are talking about after all.

By bring up something so absurd, that the 50 cents cadres caught this bloke, is an attempt to deflect.

No one wants certain questions asked.

Insinuations against the dastardly Chinese are alright.

Questions about why another conservative politician (morality, law & order, etc.) is involved in yet another sex scandal, that is not alright.

Those questions will remained unanswered as they investigate something else.

That is the British way of life!

Carry on ...

:p

Wasn't there a joke about Chinese people and elephants?

How are Chinese and elephants the same? We got long memories.

This is an old scandal from the past.

What we see today, is really no different from yesterday.

The ideas, the reactions, the bs, that is all the same; the only thing that changes is the vernacular.

No one does this political scandals better than the British.

It doesn't even come close to the "Profumo Affair"

Canada has yet another chance to get out of this Meng Wanzhou mess that it created for itself based on the new evidence. If it still wants to, that is. But one gets the feeling that Canada has already been too tightly roped in to the American anti-China bandwagon to get off now. Had it acted earlier, it could have several chances. It could refuse the US extradition request right at the beginning, as some of US allies had done. Trudeau could also have intervened to free Meng before Trump left the office. Unlike Australia, Canada actually had a relatively trouble-free relationship before the Meng incident. Now it just had to dig in and double down - it has recently taken the lead to call on UN Human Right chief to immediately investigate the so-called Xinjiang forced labor allegation.
