Anybody hear about this...?

Yes these people are unadulterated with an education so it's like wisdom from the mouths of babes. Small-town values like Sarah Palin thinks are the jewels of America. That's why you see so many people hide behind children like the Jan. 6th QAnon insurrectionists who were doing it for the children protecting them from the evil left-wing Democrats and Hollywood celebrity child molesters when they all look like they would molest a child if they were given the chance. The Republicans don't like political correctness because it's hiding the truth from the sensitive but we have to tippy-toe around these idiots too sensitive to being called the dumbasses that they are. They all think they're Forrest Gump and think a movie should be made about every single one of them.

And it's not just small-town America but US Congress people...

This story is going around. It's sort of like those recounting votes in Arizona where because a farm in the state caught on fire and it killed a lot chickens, they concluded that ballots that voted for Trump in Arizona for the 2020 Presidential election were shredded and fed to these very chickens.
Some of the real messages they're telegraphing to the world with piece like this:

- a dictator of a very poor nation is living on extravaganza like wearing a $12k watch -- he's truly ugly -- painting the monster picture of Kim like they did on Putin, Xi and many other non-compliant leaders!

- you folks should follow steps to purchase the "best watch" made in a western country, either for its hi-tech or simply for status, even the price tag is exorbitant, get a credit if you can't afford to buy in cash -- a promo for some luxurious stuff, we need more ez bucks from the greater fool in the Global South in particular

At least one stone hitting two targets! Just imagine the benefits without delving into details...
The subliminal messages conveyed in articles like this is the Gold standard in writing techniques of the many western journalism in past decades in general and Anglo world in particular.

Why not though? The western media is not wrong on this..

Kim should support his own "watch" industry (if they have one..). If NK doesn't have a watch industry then he should at least support Chinese watches

Would you like seeing Xi wearing a Rolex? Lol

Western media are entirely correct on this. Kim shouldnt be using ANY western products. By continue showing how much he loves western products he just shows to his citizens that the West is so much better

Why not use Chinese products then to support your "brother"

Another incompetent leader....

Going for gold: Russia to eliminate US dollar from sovereign wealth fund THIS MONTH amid warning of politics sabotaging currency (03 JUNE 2021)

Russia’s sovereign wealth fund will take a punt on gold and slash $40 billion of US currency entirely out of its investment portfolio amid growing tensions with Washington, the country’s finance minister announced on Thursday.

Anton Siluanov said that the National Wealth Fund would reduce its share of dollars to zero within the next month. Speaking as part of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum, he said that the process would be “fast enough” and would mirror a similar move by the country’s central bank to reduce assets held in American currency.

Under the plans, the proportion of dollars in the fund will fall from 35% to zero, while assets held in euro and the Chinese yuan will increase to 40% and 30%, respectively. The share of the British pound will halve, from 10% to 5%, while the investment vehicle will buy into gold for the first time, with 20% of its assets to be hedged on the precious metal.

Speaking later on Thursday, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov backed the decision, saying that “the de-dollarization process is constant. It is, in fact, now visible to the naked eye.” He added that the move away from financial dependence on Washington “is taking place not only in our country, but also in many countries around the world, which have begun to experience concerns about the reliability of the main reserve currency.”

In April, Deputy Foreign Minister Alexander Pankin told journalists that political tensions between Washington and other nations were undermining faith in the currency overseas. The imposition of sanctions and an unpredictable economic policy, he argued, “call into question the reliability and convenience of using the American currency as the priority currency of deals.”

As a result, the minister said, countries are now being “forced to take measures against the risk of economic losses and disrupted transactions. Therefore, there is increasing interest in developing alternative mechanisms. Using other currencies in trade is becoming more and more important on the international agenda.”

Russia has championed a push away from the use of the dollar as the default global currency of trade and transactions. Last June, Sergey Naryshkin, the head of Moscow’s foreign intelligence service, the SVR, said that “it seems bewildering that the US continues to be the holder of the main reserve currency while behaving so aggressively and unpredictably.” He added that “the monopoly position of the dollar in international economic relations has become anachronistic. Gradually, the dollar is becoming toxic.”

China does not excel in watch industry. I don't think Chinese people will mind if Xi wears a Rolex, or any other stuff, but just don't think he likes stuff as such. Things like this really reflect one's character and lifestyle. If one gives me a Rolex, I won't wear it but I'll sell it :) coz I don't like item like that and may find other better use of its monetary value.

Kim is free to use what he wants. If the west displease with that, just embargo him, don't sell to him.

But the essence, thing like is a non-news, is it really a matter what a leader wear? Do you pay attention to what watch, ring, gem etc a leader in a NATO land is wearing??? Well, unless it's as big and grand as Koh-i-Noor looted by Britain from the Indian subcontinent :p

Turkey just stabbed Russia in the back (again!) by getting back with Biden and the US (incidentally, it was under Biden's watch that the coup occurred against Erdog)

Politics aside, a Huawei smartwatch will do Kim a world of good for the sake of his health and endurance. ;)

This sets a very bad example for other officials.
